The Network Professional 3 will be a trusted advisor and lead for the Network Operations team. As subject matter expert, you will assist with firmware upgrades, hardware upgrades & replacements, troubleshoot network outages, troubleshoot complex issues, and assist with the implementation and maintenance of LANL's monitoring tools on open and classified networks. This role requires network troubleshooting experience, experience with network monitoring tools, server administration experience, and experience with related network technologies (DNS, DHCP, SNMP, syslog). The Network professional 3 will be comfortable leading others and taking the lead projects and network outages. ISD-NS is a customer-focused group, which has the primary duty of daily 24/7 support and operation of LANL's networks and is responsible for monitoring, managing and maintaining all network assets on all LANL networks.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and restoring network devices and services.
- Advanced knowledge of network protocols.
- Advanced experience with routing protocols.
- Experience replacing and upgrading network equipment, including hardware and software.
- Demonstrated experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining network monitoring tools and applications.
- Experience designing, planning, or implementing network environments.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 8 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience using network management tools, including viewing / creating alarms, configuration management and troubleshooting syslog information.
- Experience with capturing network traffic and running network traffic analysis via packet capture software.
- Experience with BGP.
- Experience Cisco & Arista switches and routers.
- Experience with creating / modifying network Diagrams (Visio, Office).
- Experience administering and troubleshooting Enterprise-level wireless.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with customers and other staff (technical and non-technical).
- Experience mentoring and training junior team members
- Experience with incident management.
- Cisco Certifications / Juniper Certifications
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Reaching overhead, reaching horizontally, reaching down, climbing a ladder, operating a motor vehicle, running & replacing network cables, typing, gripping with the hands, the ability to lift up to 30 lbs, and replacing various networking equipment (switches, Access Points, Linecards, modules, etc)
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
