NSRC Library and Information Science Graduate Student | Los Alamos, NM | Los Alamos National Laboratory

NSRC Library and Information Science Graduate Student

What You Will Do

The National Security Research Center (NSRC) is seeking a full-time, summer graduate student to support our Collections Management Team on archival projects. This is an onsite position.

You will be working at the NSRC, Los Alamos National Laboratory's classified library, containing millions of documents, films, books, and other archival materials related to the development, testing, and production of nuclear weapons.

This position will engage in digitizing, cataloging, and uploading materials to repositories for an estimated 50% of the time and assist in controlled vocabulary and taxonomy development for 50% of the time. This has the option of being a multi-summer position. A student's first summer would be working on unclassified materials. A student would move into classified workflows their second summer, if they have obtained a Q clearance.

Responsibilities:
  • Digitization of archival materials (paper, still image negatives)
  • Cataloging and upload of digitized materials to repositories
  • Assist in the research and creation of controlled vocabularies and taxonomies

Learning Outcomes:
  • Develop digitization skills
  • Develop digital asset management, repository, and cataloging experience
  • Hands-on experience at taxonomy development
  • Contribute to the preservation and access of materials regarding national security and scientific history

Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
