As a part of the New Employee Training and Workforce Development Group (WMS-1) you will be able to apply your skillsets to provide centralized coordination, training, and communication initiatives across WMS-1's various programs to benefit all Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP). Reporting to the WMS-1 Group Leader, you will work closely with the WMS-1 team to accomplish tasks. Day-to-day duties include working with program owners and subject matter experts, developing targeted training-related products in alignment with division standards, and meeting with key stakeholders.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide direct support to training programs that have operational deliverables.
- Assist with the development of detailed plans to manage processes, scope, quality, efficiency, risk to deliverables, communications, and professional responsibility.
- Coordinate and communicate across various teams to understand specific requirements, obstacles, and priorities to produce quality products that can be socialized to key stakeholders.
- Develop/provide input to strategic initiatives that captures the news and information, accomplishments, people stories, special programs and activities relevant to WMS-1 programs.
- Ensure that processes are followed through to completion with efficiency, accuracy, and with high quality, while understanding and maintaining priorities.
- Maintain relationships to help customers and stakeholders achieve their goals.
Salary Range:
- Operations Support Specialist 1: $60,500 to $93,600
- Operations Support Specialist 2: $72,800 to $115,400
While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

What You Need

- Education/Experience for Operations Support Specialist 1: Position requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 2 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Education/Experience for Operations Support Specialist 2: Position requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Operational Functions:
- Basic knowledge of business activities in an operational environment, including familiarity with one or more of the following: formality of operations, compliance practices, configuration management, training and qualification, and feedback and improvement.
- Computer Skills/Business Systems:
- Knowledge of business and operations systems and standard software applications (i.e., Microsoft and Adobe products).
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to use of LANL business systems (i.e., Oracle, UTrain, etc.).
- Familiarity with how to produce multimedia elements to enhance written products.
- Critical Thinking:
- Entry-level experience in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting facility operations and operational quality assurance.
- Skill in analyzing customer and audience needs and determining the structure, content, and format of communication products that best meet those needs.
- Communication:
- Effective writing, oral, interpersonal, communication, and interviewing skills with an interest in communicating to diverse audiences.
- Basic ability to conceptualize and communicate program requirements and detailed elements to both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Customer Service:
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others.
- Ability to interact professionally with all types of personnel, including external interfaces and executive management.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Demonstrated knowledge of English grammar and rhetoric.
- Basic knowledge and application of the principles and practices of editing and document production.
- Familiarity with regulatory guidance and the implementation thereof.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- A proactive, positive nature.
- Experience with educational programs and/or academic institutions.
- An active DOE Q-level clearance.
Term Appointment: This position is for a Term Appointment: hired for periods of up to a maximum of 10 years. Term employees are at-will and may be terminated at any time.
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. This is not a Telework or Remote position. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
