At Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), we solve national security challenges through simultaneous excellence! The Plutonium Capability Low Level Waste and WCRRF Waste Operations group (NPI-10) is looking for highly motivated individuals to serve as a level 2 Operations Support Specialist to join our TA-55 LLW Operations Team. NPI-10 ensures safe, efficient, and compliant waste management generated at the TA-55 Plutonium Facility, the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research (CMR) building, the TA-50 Radioactive Liquid Waste Treatment Facility (RLWTF), and the Radiological Laboratory Utility Office Building (RLUOB). We also provide ample opportunities to learn new skillsets and maintain a supportive environment when challenges arise. How we do our work is just as important as what we do. The Operations Support Specialist 2 assists in the operations functions of facilities or organizations, programs, business activities, and other areas that require functional support for meeting deliverables. This position assists process-based activities such as shipping and receiving, operations processes of facilities or organizations, and other roles needed to support operations. Duties broadly include working to support an operation or functional process, maintaining quality and accuracy of the process, and reliably assisting in seeing the process through to completion. This includes delivering on this work safely and in compliance with Laboratory policies and other regulatory requirements. Additional duties may include improving documentation, identifying process improvements, budgeting, administrative assistance, providing guidance for other workers and feedback to supervisors, and supporting all aspects of the activity to ensure end-to-end success of the process or operation.

• Safety and security are a primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Assures safety and security compliance, maintains required safety and security training, , and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
• Provides direct support of operations in programs, facilities, or organizations that have an operational or process-based deliverable.
• Ensures that the process is followed through to completion with efficiency, accuracy, and with high quality, while understanding and maintaining priorities.
• Follows established procedures, maintains documentation such as record-keeping, budget and cost-tracking, inventory-tracking; develops documentation when necessary.
• Communicates and coordinates with team-members, supervisors, and other involved organizations to ensure that the deliverable will be efficiently met, obstacles are anticipated, and priorities are clearly understood.
• Assists with the development of detailed plans to manage processes, scope, quality, efficiency, risk to deliverables, communications, and professional responsibility.
• Performs various administrative tasks such as procurments, travel administration, resource scheduling, as well as office and personnel support.
• Assists with and coordinates the review and revision of procedures, scope, and process development and improvement pertaining to organizational or facility operations.
• Provides issues management support for a diverse range of complex issues where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors, including the compilation, review, and assessment of data and the development of management assessments and/or recommendations.
• Assists in developing corrective actions that accurately address apparent and root cause analysis, data analysis, project management, safety and coordination of presentations and briefings and conducting critiques.
• Contributes to the organization's goals and objectives. Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
• Provides customer service to internal customers and external customers.
• Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
• Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise. Requires limited responsibility for making routine contacts on general matters outside of the immediate organization.

Minimum Job Requirements:
• Entry-level knowledge of the scope, processes, methodologies and requirements for the particular operation or process involved with this role.

• Knowledge of facility operations, including familiarity with integrated safety, formality of operations, facility availability, compliance, performance, maintenance, engineering, safety basis, readiness, configuration management, work control, activity approval, physical and cyber security, quality assurance, training and qualification, feedback and improvement.
• Knowledge of institutional and organizational policies, practices, and procedures, including policy and procedure development, implementation, and enforcement.
• Knowledge of documentation quality assurance, including document controls and records management.
• Complete understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the attributes of a sound conduct of operations program. Familiarity with all Department of Energy (DOE) training, qualification, and readiness requirements.
• Knowledge of the readiness process as it pertains to assigned facility.
• Experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting operations and operational quality assurance.
• Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of operations and operational quality assurance to both technical and non-technical personnel.
• Working knowledge of the Laboratory's issues management process and performance measurement processes.
• Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.

DOE Order 426.2A: DOE Order 426.2A requires a high school diploma.
Desired Qualifications:
• Knowledge of TA-55 facility operations and NPI mission.
• Experience working within LANL policies and procedures.
• Familiarity or experience working in support of hazardous waste management and/or within a nuclear facility.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with hazardous material shipping and the hazardous waste processes
• An active Q clearance
