Post-Baccalaureate Science and Engineering Research Intern

What You Will Do

Come join the best and brightest minds in the world at one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The Information Sciences and Modeling Group (A-1) develops information systems and models to understand complicated threat scenarios, like weapons of mass destruction, hurricanes, and infectious disease outbreaks. The work we do at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) matters to our country and the world.

We are seeking a post-baccalaureate student with a degree in a STEM field to join our Data Analytics team. The Data Analytics Team performs basic and applied research focused on infectious disease modeling and forecasting, political instability modeling and forecasting, predictive analytics for national security applications, and large-scale data analytics. Our expertise covers statistics, machine learning, dynamical systems, graph theory, agent-based simulations, and data analytics. We ensure the scientific and technological validity of our approaches by working closely with physicists, mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, economists, remote sensing scientists, political scientists, and public health officials through interdisciplinary collaborations. The student will partner with an experienced mentor who will provide guidance and feedback and work closely with a team of scientists in supporting various projects throughout the course of the year-around internship.
