Post-Bachelor's Research Associate - Radiation Transport Applications

What You Will Do

The Radiation Transport Applications (RTA) group at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Post-Bachelor's Research Associate to support projects in radiation transport modeling, simulation, and detector applications. The successful candidate will work closely with staff scientists on projects that advance the Laboratory's national security, nuclear nonproliferation, and fundamental science missions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement computational models for radiation transport and detector response.
  • Analyze experimental and simulated data using Python or C++.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary collaborations, data interpretation, and reporting technical results.

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Proficiency in Python or C++ programming.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.


Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, obtained within the past three years or expected within the next six months.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with radiation detectors such as scintillators, HPGe, or He-3 systems.
  • Familiarity with ROOT, Geant4, or MCNP software packages.
  • Experience with experimental data collection and analysis.
  • Understanding of radiation transport principles or nuclear instrumentation.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
