What You Will Do

As a member of the High Explosives Science & Technology group, your job duties will be to assist scientists, technologists, engineers, and technicians in the inventory and organization of explosive samples within a large, diverse site. Communication skills will be important, as this position requires coordination with a variety of personnel. Work may occur in areas involving high consequences for safety, e.g. high explosives, high power lasers, high magnetic fields, accelerators, high energy capacitor banks, gas guns, or X-ray systems, often related to national security objectives. This position will be filled at either the Production Control Specialist 1 or Production Control Specialist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Production Control Specialist 1 $59,200-$91,600
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written skills, demonstrated by relationships built, briefings, and presentations.
  • Customer Service: Experience working independently and in team environments, responding to customer requests, and providing responsive, professional service.
  • Tracking Performance: Experience with project-oriented work environments, tracking progress, and monitoring performance.
  • Applications: Proficient with Microsoft Office productivity software (Word, Excel, etc).
  • Efficiently allocate time to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • Ability to independently organize time and complete deliverables.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain the progress of multiple concurrent tasks involving large data sets.

Production Control Specialist 2 $71,200-$112,900

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • (Within discipline) Knowledge of production and/or inventory control, applications of production/inventory control methods, and application of technology aided tools to conventional and non-conventional programmatic and operations-based production/inventory control problems.
  • Knowledge of production and inventory control and planning methods.
  • Knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards and guides.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and control practices, including cycle counting and physical inventory management practices
  • Awareness and willing to learn of supply chain management and resource management practices.
  • Inventory: Knowledge of inventory management and control practices, including inventory database management and footprints ticket system.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with inventorying or tracking high explosives, firearms, ammunition, chemicals and/or biological samples
  • Familiarity with chemistry lab protocols and procedures
  • DOE or DoD Clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2- Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
