Production Control Specialist 2/3

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Production Control Specialist 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Non-Destructive Testing & Evaluation (NDTE) Group (V-6) within the Weapon Verification and Validation Division is seeking a motivated and customer-focused PCS to coordinate daily operations, manage logistics, and support mission-critical work. This role is essential to ensuring the successful planning and execution of non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections that support the Lab's national security mission.

Production Control Specialist 2 ($71,200 - $112,900)

In this position, you will be responsible for managing inspection schedules from initiation through completion, performing classified computer transactions, and acting as a custodian for classified parts. You'll maintain key group records, including training certifications, ChemDB entries, material transfer forms, and safe/VTR inventories. This is a dynamic, fast-paced role requiring strong initiative, adaptability, and close collaboration with technical teams and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the central scheduling point of contact between V-6 and internal/external customers.
  • Manage training and certification records, ensuring documentation remains current and compliant.
  • Work with Group Leader and First Line Managers (FLMs) to develop and adjust daily operating schedules, including coordination of frequent off-site travel.
  • Track NDT jobs from initiation to final report and communicate progress to customers.
  • Maintain and monitor access control, ensuring no scheduling conflicts.
  • Coordinate the transportation and accountability of items and materials, including contact with transportation and radiation control technicians and accurate entry in LANMAS and CPIMS.
  • Ensure secure handling, receipt, and transmission of classified matter/media in compliance with LANL policy.

Production Control Specialist 3 ($85,900 - $139,900)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level some additional key responsibilities include:
  • Expert knowledge of scheduling, work planning and control methods.
  • Expert knowledge document control.
  • Expert knowledge of ChemDB.

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • Track record of mentoring and assisting colleagues to meet organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting customers and fostering constructive and cooperative customer relations to include the ability to communicate effectively, conscientiously and professionally in a high-performance team environment with all levels of professional in a collaborative work environment.
  • Above-average proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Wide-ranging experience with inventory control systems, material tracking methods, and LANL business systems.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • CMPC Experience: Familiarity with classified matter protection and control policies. Experience with LANMAS and CPIMS systems.
  • System Experience: Hands-on experience with FootPrints and PDMLink.
  • Active Clearance: An active DOE Q clearance is highly desirable.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
