This position will be filled at either the Production Control Specialist level 2 or 3, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Use your skills to support our national security mission! Prototype Fabrication (PF) is seeking a qualified Production Control specialist (level 2 or 3) to join the division's Integrated Logistics & Asset Management (ILAM) team.
The PF Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory provides decades of experience and expertise in machining, fabrication and precision dimensional inspection of critical hardware needed to support the nation's stockpile stewardship efforts. Join our dedicated staff of engineers, programmers, journeymen machinists, dimensional inspectors, quality assurance professionals, and liaisons supporting multiple programs with manufactured components ranging in size through a wide variety of materials including those with radioactive, toxic, pyrophoric, and/or other hazardous characteristics for a broad customer base, both within LANL and within the Nuclear Weapons Complex.
Production Control Specialist 2: ($71,200 - $112,900)
As a Production Control Specialist 2 you will be tasked with providing vital production and manufacturing support for critical areas of operations. These responsibilities cover a broad range of transactional activities that are crucial for manufacturing accountability, security, shipping, tracking, quality, and successful delivery of product to a broad customer base. Duties include but are not limited to the scheduling of incoming work using JobBOSS, an enterprise resource scheduling platform, creating the corresponding travelers, support classified matter custodian functions, and material and inventory tracking.
Production Control Specialist 3: ($85,900 - $139,900)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the successful candidate must have the ability to conduct internal inventories and assessments on policy execution. This will require the employee to work closely with management, staff, and a large customer base to monitor and ensure compliance in the areas of control and accountability of classified material as a Classified Matter Parts Custodian (CMPC) for the division. CMPC duties will include daily support for machinists and technicians with component transfers and tracking, as well as conducting inventories of classified and hazardous materials through the use of tools such as the Classified Parts Inventory Management System (CPIMS). Additionally, the selected candidate will prepare for and serve as the point of contact for LANL and DOE external audits. Other duties include serving as a LANMAS custodian for the division with oversight for safe and compliant storage, disposition, packaging and/or transportation of hazardous and/or classified material and components. These duties will require certifications as an MBA custodian and HMPT shipper.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Scheduling
- Demonstrated experience performing, monitoring, and reviewing scheduling functions.
- Ability to coordinate the delivery and transfer of finished products to include the packaging and shipping of unclassified and classified parts on and offsite for a broad customer base.
- Ability to coordinate and communicate with onsite customers and offsite vendors to fulfill awarded task orders and support the retrieval of finished products.
- Ability to coordinate the delivery of unclassified drawings, raw stock, and regularly drive over two hundred miles weekly to complete these assigned tasks.
Inventory Management/Organizational Skills
- Demonstrated experience with detailed record keeping and organization, e.g., inventory, records, and materials logs.
- High attention to detail with accuracy and strong organizational skills.
Computing/Business Systems and Software
- Demonstrated proficiency with typical business software, computer hardware, and use of computer systems, specifically, spreadsheets, procurement systems and inventory databases.
Customer Service
- Demonstrated experience interacting in a customer service-related setting and the ability to work cohesively in a team environment as well as independently to meet high demand schedule deliverables.
- Demonstrated record of dependability, reliability, and commitment to the long-term needs of the job duties and programmatic goals of the organization.
Clearance
- The ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.
Additional Job Requirements for level 3
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Demonstrated experience working with radiological material, hazardous material, and/or classified matter management, accountability (MC&A), coordination, packaging, transportation (HMPT) regulations, storage, and disposition.
- Advanced knowledge of nuclear material management to include SNM processing, storage, control, disposition, distribution, and limits for radiological facilities.
- Expert knowledge and training in the control and accountability of classified material as a classified matter parts custodian and demonstrated experience with the use of the LANL CPIMS system.
- Demonstrated experience working safely and securely as a laboratory employee in a moderate hazard work environment and maintaining required safety and security training.
- Demonstrated extensive analytical skills and proven competence in anticipating, identifying, researching, and resolving complex issues. Work experience showing a contribution to work place development, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control and/or transportation subject areas; self-starter that can identify problem areas, investigate and recommend solutions as well as support implementation strategies.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain pertinent certification to include but not limited to: NMCA Certification and HMPT Certification
Training/Certifications:
You must have the ability to acquire and maintain pertinent certifications, such as: Radiological Worker II; Beryllium Worker; classified matter custodian (CMC) forklift operator; crane operator (incidental or qualified); and others that may apply.
Education/Experience at Level 2:
Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Education/Experience at Level 3:
Position requires 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of LANL specific applications (Job Boss, CPIMS, LANMAS, HMPT certification, etc.)
- Experience with manufacturing processes.
- Strong working knowledge of the breadth of PF-ILAM activities associated with classified weapons component fabrication.
- Experience dealing and working with audits and assessments on/or related to P821-2, Management of Classified Parts.
- Experience working within the NNSA Weapons Complex.
- Active Q clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
