What You Will Do

The selected candidates will perform as Professional Staff Assistants for the Deputy Laboratory Director for Weapons (DDW's) Office. Reporting to the Staff Operations Manager, this ad is intended to hire two individuals who will provide support to the staff within the DDW office and to the National Security AI Office, the Stockpile Annual Assessment & Strategy Office, and/or the Nevada Programs Office. The candidates will participate as key members of the DDW Administrative Team enabling business and operational excellence in support of our mission. We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated, results-oriented professionals to provide support in all aspects of the business, operational, and programmatic functions.

Work is conducted in a team environment that requires close cooperation, exceptional communication, adaptability, taking initiative in completing tasks, and a willingness to provide support where needed. You will maintain a professional office atmosphere and assume responsibility with minimal supervision, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail, initiative, versatility, tact, and confidentiality in all matters. Must be a motivated performer capable of quickly changing focus, acting independently and comfortable with a broadly defined scope of work. Must be able to establish priorities for work completion according to deadlines, commitments, and schedules. May support special projects and initiatives. You will work closely with the Staff Operations Manager and other professional and administrative staff within the directorate. Must use discretion with sensitive matters and be able to work cooperatively in a dynamic and diverse office environment while maintaining a positive attitude, professional work atmosphere and a high degree of customer service.

Depending on the office assigned, responsibilities may include the following:

  • Provide professional level guidance and high-level administrative management in all business and operational areas and serve as an advisor to management on a multitude of issues
  • Support the DDW personnel and visitors
  • Reduce the administrative load of the management team
  • Serve as a classified matter protection and control (CMPC) custodian for DDW office staff
  • Manage data calls in cooperation with the national Genesis Mission
  • May serve as a custodian of the Blue Room, assisting with the management of tours, and accessing the space
  • Coordinate the Director's Annual Assessment Briefs, and all relevant support activities
  • Work closely with the Director's Red Team, equipping them with the necessary interfaces to successfully complete their annual reporting requirements
  • Taking meeting minutes and disseminating among various work groups


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:



  • Demonstrated experience directly supporting senior managers or leadership. Proven record of effectively building and maintaining positive working relationships with all levels of staff (internal and external) including customers and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience providing calendar management, planning logistics, managing schedule conflicts, and arranging for local and cross-organizations meetings.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop networks effectively with other administrative staff and key contacts outside own area of expertise, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing, prioritizing, and following through to completion on multiple tasks with minimal supervision as well as the proven ability to work effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions and changing priorities with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience with business systems (i.e. Time and Labor, Travel, Purchasing) including experience with Microsoft applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Excellent record of dependability, availability, attendance, punctuality, and proven customer service skills.
  • Active Q clearance.

Work Location:

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment:

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
