What You Will Do

The X-Theoretical Design (XTD) Division is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic professional to support the management team on various technical projects that have directorate and laboratory-wide impact. The successful candidate will work with team members, customers and end-users to support the timely delivery of technical analysis for activities such as weapons systems safety documentation updates, reporting requirements, funding, annual budget exercises and monthly/quarterly reporting needs.

This position will report to the Division Leader and support group leader, deputy group leader, and team leads. The chosen professional, will primarily be assigned to help organize, coordinate and track the activities for INRAD and Global Security related projects. These projects require high-levels of coordination between the RTA group office and multiple internal organizations in XTD-, W-, Q-, NEN-, RP-PROG, NCS and E-divisions.

You will be coordinating resources (finances, schedule, deliverables) and personnel, logistics tracking, document control and coordination of product quality checks, and supporting the strategic and tactical planning for execution of projects. You will work to grow existing working relationships and effective engagement that spans across multiple organizations internal to LANL. The PSA-3 will facilitate an effective collaborative environment and coordinate to solve complex challenges. As the selected professional, you should expect to engage with high-level internal and external customers on a regular basis. Learning to manage projects that involve staff from multiple organizations at the Laboratory working in collaboration with other institutions such as Sandia National Laboratories and/or NNSA. Support in the development of scope of these projects in particular, for the business operations aspects including budgets, financial reporting, and procurements. Reporting requirements support to streamline the efforts of technical leaders in the other teams within XTD-RTA.

Management Support


Demonstrated ability to develop effective customer and end-user relationships; interacting with all levels of internal and external personnel in a professional manner.
Knowledge of project/program management, technical information management, working within a regulatory environment, working within a sensitive and secure environment, document management and control, information storage and retrieval, and understand developing and reporting of metrics.
Experience managing large complex tasks and/or projects(s). Broad knowledge and willingness to learn laboratory programs, finance systems, policies, and organizations including the weapons and global security programs.
Demonstrated experience in researching, assembling and coordinating assigned projects, understating of balancing resources and priorities, including action tracking and developing mitigating actions

Leadership

Experience leading and supporting a portfolio of tasks/projects with continuous improvement and requirements development, traceability, as-well-as strategic solutions.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-disciplined environment without continuous direction.

Accountability
Experience working with confidential information, controlled documents, sensitive information or special projects.
Proven ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor a wide variety of team efforts often with conflicting priorities to completion and by required timelines. The successful candidate will also have experience working across organizational boundaries to achieve program goals.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and without direction to execute mission objectives. Demonstrated ability to provide and accept constructive feedback.

Communication
Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational, and presentation skills. You must have experience developing clear, concise, and informative action plans, reports, presentations, correspondence, and other written materials.
Demonstrated ability to have honest and open communication about work product, processes and procedures as the work is a team effort.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Broad familiarity with Laboratory business systems including a deep understanding of the Laboratory sub-contracting process.
  • Experience as a Laboratory point of contact for external stakeholders in the Department of Defense, other NNSA Laboratories and non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience planning and organizing large technical meetings with Laboratory staff and high-level external customers and end-users from other government agencies.
  • Knowledge and experience using a Project Management tools (such as MS Project, Primavera etc) for tracking projects technical deliverables.
  • Ability to obtain an SCI/SAR as desired
  • An MBA from an accredited institution.

Work Location: The work location for this position is intended as an on site at the Los Alamos NM facility. Frequent travel to other facilities in the nuclear weapons complex is also likely. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
