What You Will Do

Detonator Production (DP) Division is the premier Production Agency (PA) assigned to produce War Reserve (WR) detonators for the Nation's nuclear stockpile security mission. The Division is part of LANL's Weapons Production Directorate (ALDWP). DP is comprised of a team of motivated, highly skilled technical and operational support staff working in an integrated format. The organization is centered on high-rigor manufacturing operations to produce precision, safe and reliable WR products. DP partners closely with customers and stakeholders such as NNSA (National Nuclear Security Administration), Design Agencies (LANL, Sandia, and Livermore), and LANL program management orgs to deliver on challenging National security objectives. DP upholds vigorous teamwork, personal integrity, respectful workplace, and continuous improvement in operations, technical excellence, safety and security.

DP is seeking a Project Leader 3 to support the Infrastructure Planning Office (IPO). The IPO provides programmatic equipment maintenance, upgrades, abnormal event response, resolution and compliance services provided by various teams such as the program maintenance team, project coordinators, access control team and security escorts. This position will serve as the back up to the senior Project Lead within IPO.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Project Management: Demonstrated advanced level of knowledge with project management, project controls and construction activities. Advanced knowledge of project management principles, including project planning, leading and development.

Leadership: Proven ability to lead project teams in tracking milestones, resolving issues and adapting to evolving requirements. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external sponsors. Experience leading diverse teams and personnel.

Planning: Experience in planning and defining project scope through collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders. Demonstrated experience in planning capital improvement projects and facility renovations, particularly in a manufacturing environment.

Scheduling: Advanced knowledge of and experience in coordinating multiple operations, balancing resources and priorities, and using software to assign and schedule work.

Communication and collaboration: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective mid-level internal customer relationships. Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust, gain consensus, and work effectively across levels and disciplines.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with national security stakeholders and protocols, including coordination with NNSA, Design Agencies (LANL, Sandia, Livermore), and internal program management.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or leading diverse operational teams, such as project coordinators, security escorts, access control teams, and maintenance personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a manufacturing environment and knowledge of production process workflows
  • Experience in high-stakes, mission-critical environments, with an emphasis on safety, security, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Active DOE Q Clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
