Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) plays a crucial role in maintaining the nation's nuclear deterrent and advancing scientific research. At the heart of LANL's mission is the Pit Technologies (PT) Division, a key component of the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP). This division is at the forefront of manufacturing operations at Technical Area 55 (TA-55), a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to plutonium research and pit production.
The PT Division is currently in growth mode in terms of scope, budget, and personnel, and is currently looking to add support for the engineering teams. In order to produce pits for the NNSA, PT processes must be qualified by the Design Agency (DA) per the requirements of Defense Programs Business Process Systems (DPBPS). The selected applicant will use project management, coordination, and administrative skills to ensure that qualification activities meet programmatic requirements. The selected individual will work with stakeholders across LANL, partner laboratories, other national security enterprise labs, plants and sites to implement a structured process to maintain qualified processes for the pit production flowsheets.
The selected candidate will ensure safety and security remain a primary responsibility by maintaining compliance, completing required training, and integrating safety and security into all tasks, including stopping work when necessary. They will provide specialized support to PT management in planning, organizing, and managing resources for process qualification activities, including developing schedules, monitoring progress, and delivering detailed reports. The role involves coordinating with project, program, and line managers to secure qualified resources and ensure deliverables are completed within defined scope and timelines. Under limited direction, the candidate will track and report on project performance, serve as a primary point of contact for communicating status and issues to leadership, and identify risks while developing and recommending mitigation strategies. The individual will adhere to all Laboratory and regulatory requirements and actively promote a respectful work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Working knowledge of and experience in project or program management work.
- Working knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to pit production or other similar production activities.
- Experience in developing and nurturing effective internal customer relationships.
- Experience in successful planning, organizing, and reporting status and issues.
- Active Q clearance.
Communication and Teamwork
- Experienced ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in high-intensity environments with coworkers representing a variety of technical backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to express ideas to a wide variety of audiences clearly in ways that build understanding, respect, and trust, as demonstrated through presentations and publications.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with qualification activities as part of either a PA or DA within NNSA or a contractor organization.
- Experience with DPBPS.
- Experience with NAP401.1A , ALDWP's Weapons Quality Assurance Program, or similar quality management systems.
Work Environment: This position requires 24/7 coverage and therefore may require working a rotating shift schedule that includes nights and weekends.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
426.2A: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
