What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks experienced professionals to join the Institutional Quality Performance Assurance - Plutonium Infrastructure Quality (IQPA-PIQ) group. This team supports modernization and construction at TA-55 within the Pajarito Security Corridor. Candidates should demonstrate strong construction quality expertise, in-depth knowledge of national QA standards, and proven success applying IQPA processes across ALDPI organizations. The role involves collaborating across teams to resolve challenges, recommending practical solutions to complex issues, ensuring regulatory and QA compliance, and representing management with customers.

What You Need


Minimum Job Requirements:

Ideal candidates will bring expertise in construction quality and a deep understanding of national quality assurance standards. Key qualifications and responsibilities include:
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge of engineering, procurement, construction, and turnover processes, including Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) and the graded approach in NQA-1 environments.
  • Experienced in quality assessments, audits, surveillances, QA observations, and in developing and presenting findings or improvement opportunities.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to address complex project challenges.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver advanced technical reports.
  • Effective at managing conflict, negotiating agreements, and fostering consensus and trust within diverse teams.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills for prioritizing multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Experience in construction quality with practical experience applying standards such as 10 CFR 830, ASME, ISO, and ANSI/ASME NQA-1 2008/2009a.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams for communication and collaboration.
  • Experience in the manufacturing or fabrication sectors, with a solid understanding of quality principles.
  • Technical knowledge of welding, NDE (LT, LP, UT, HeT) and experience with, construction and fabrication quality assurance/control activities including, but not necessarily limited to; all aspects of NQA-1 2008/2009A
  • Skilled in interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and schematics with precision.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
