Quality Assurance Analyst 2/3

What You Will Do

Two positions will be filled at either the Quality Assurance Analyst 2 or the Quality Assurance Analyst 3 level. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if a candidate is hired at the higher level.

Quality Assurance Analyst 2. ($76,900 to $122,200)

Would you like to contribute to national security in this era of rapidly changing geo-political landscape? The Design Agency Quality organization at Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking to add two Quality Assurance Analysts to join our team and help us meet the surging national demand for nuclear stockpile modernization.

Job duties include but are not limited to: performing weapon material receipt inspection, providing quality oversight for assembly builds and disassembles, tracking quality performance, and driving issues to resolution. You will learn job skills and become familiar with Laboratory policies in order to complete assignments. You will also provide other functions in support of the Quality Program for weapon design.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Participate in the preparation and review of quality management programs and procedures, as assigned.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical quality assurance procedures in accordance with approved Laboratory policies.
  • Ensure quality assurance results, materials, processes and final products meet quality specific specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
  • Design, deploy, and operate systems and supporting tools and provide training for continuous improvement; metrics, assessments, procurement quality; internal and external assessments, surveillance, and audits; lessons learned; risk characterization; issues and corrective actions managementfor weapons programs.
  • Provides quality assurance, compliance, and requirements management and implementation support forweapons programs.

Quality Assurance Analyst 3. ($92,300 to $151,000)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level:
  • Lead or participate in internal and external assessments when assigned.
  • Follow up on actions taken in response to audit/assessment/surveillance findings to ensure adequacy of corrective actions are taken.
  • Develop and implement institutional and/or weapons policies and procedures related to quality, data gathering, and analysis, cause and corrective action determination and verification, and process improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for independent actions, decision-making and accountability within their areas of responsibility, managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Provide input to audit/assessment scheduling processes that support LANL procurement and manufacturing, design, operations, maintenance, and programmatic requirements.
  • Establish contacts across directorates within LANL and occasionally external to the Laboratory.
  • Provide direction to less experienced personnel within their quality assurance function.
  • Ensure quality assurance results, materials, processes and final products meet quality specific specifications and are completed according to established requirements as required by task assignments.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated capability in interpersonal and communication skills as evidenced by successful interaction with various levels of management and stakeholders.
  • Proven record of providing customer focused services.
  • Proven skills and experience in completing moderately complex assignments.
  • Experience and ability to ensure quality assurance requirements are met during the design, procurement, and assembly of nuclear weapons-related items.
  • Awareness of hazardous/nuclear materials safety practices.
Additional Job Requirements for Quality Assurance Analyst 3:
  • Advanced and extensive experience leading quality audits.
  • Advanced and extensive skills in development of tools for quality assurance program development, technical assessments, and corrective action plan development and review, and authoritative reporting to LANL organizations, DOE/NNSA, and contractor organizations.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills as evidenced by successful interaction with various levels of management, state and/or federal regulators, stakeholders and/or suppliers.
  • Proven record of success leading cross-organizational teams.
  • Advanced ability to interact successfully under pressure.
  • Advanced ability to work with minimal direction to accomplish general programmatic objectives.
  • Advanced level of analytical ability and innovative thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to accept accountability for safety of self and others.
  • Basic knowledge of and experience in weapons systems, weapons manufacturing, production, and design operations and practices.

Education/Experience for QAA-2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience for QAA-3: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of and experience with quality assurance regulatory/contractual/technical documents (e.g., Department of Energy [DOE] orders, DOE Order 414.1, 10CFR830, NQA-1, DOE/NNSA weapons quality policy (NAP401.1A), nuclear weapons complex technical business practices, the NNSA quality assurance procedure and contractual requirements relevant to quality assurance activities).
  • Basic knowledge of weapons systems, manufacturing, production, and design operations and practices.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
