Quality Performance Assurance (QPA Specialist 1/2)

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at the QPA Specialist 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The QPA Specialist will be part of the Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance-Quality Support Services (IQPA-QSS) Group and will report to the IQPA-QSS Project Execution Team Leader and Group Leader. The IQPA-QSS mission is to support Institutional Programs and Projects to ensure quality requirements are implemented and compliant. The selected candidate will report directly to the IQPA-QSS Group. The QPA Specialist will be deployed functionally to Advanced Sources and Detectors Project (ASD-PO).

As the QPA Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring quality requirements are incorporated into the Organization mentioned. Regular contact with other resources internal and external to the IQPA-QSS Group may be necessary to execute responsibilities successfully.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist P-TSME (Procurement Technical Subject Matter Expert) with incoming items verification. (content and requirements)
  • Support inventory group in resolution of issues
  • Support development and implementation of storage area requirements and desired outcomes
  • Support controlled storage area (CSA) surveillance as requested
  • Assist in the inventory process development and implementation as requested
  • Assist P-TSME with Acceptance Plans for inventory
  • Assist in the development, content, review and approval of Final Item Conformance Package
  • ASD Handoff Plan - Assist in the development, review and approval of the final package
  • Assist in assembly plan development, approval, witness and hold points
  • Assist with the continuous improvement, development and implementation for the assembly process
  • Oversight of HLR (Hoisting, Lifting, Rigging) and crane activity implementation
  • Oversight of M&TE implementation
  • Perform inspections on parts to ensure specifications are met
  • Maintain inspection area and inspection equipment

What You Need




Minimum Job Requirements:

QPA Specialist 1 ($64,700 - $101,400)
  • General knowledge and application of nuclear codes and standards. For example: 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D(E), ASME NQA-1-2008/ASME NQA-1A-2009 Addenda to ASME NQA-1 - 2008, and/or U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series or equivalent.
  • General knowledge/experience participating in and supporting quality assessments, surveillances, audits and/or Non-Conformance disposition and closure.
  • General ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, specifications, and schematics.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel across multiple organizations to solve problems.
QPA Specialist 2 ($78,700 - $125,100)
In addition to what was outlined above, qualifications for QPA Specialist 2 requires:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of nuclear codes and standards. For example: 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D(E), ASME NQA-1-2008/ASME NQA-1A-2009 Addenda to ASME NQA-1 - 2008, and/or U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience participating in and supporting quality assessments, surveillances, audits and/or Non-Conformance disposition and closure.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, specifications, and schematics.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel across multiple organizations to solve problems.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field or combination of technical certification and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Current or previous auditor training and experience.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
