This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 1/2, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Reliability Engineering Technologist 1/2 reports to the MSS-APT Group Leader but will be deployed to DP-DO. This position is responsible for contributing and guiding the reliability program for the maintenance of equipment, machinery, and buildings withing the DP portfolio. This position will help develop maintenance procedures and reliability processes relevant to facility maintenance activities. Additional responsibilities will be to contribute and help build the Predictive Maintenance Program for DP at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Reliability Engineering Technologist 1 ($85,900 - $139,900)
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assists with the execution and basic review of preventive maintenance tasks. Helps ensure work orders are completed accurately and supports updates based on technician feedback.
- Enters and maintains basic equipment information in the Computerized Maintenance Management System Verifies asset tags, equipment locations, and key data points under guidance from more senior staff.
- Works with planners and technicians to help coordinate routine maintenance activities. Tracks completion and identifies gaps or delays in scheduled work.
- Provides hands-on support during maintenance and equipment inspections. Gathers basic field data and reports equipment conditions to engineers or lead technologists.
- Maintains technical records and assists in updating equipment documentation.
- Supports simple data collection efforts for equipment issues. Assists with root cause determination and follows up on common corrective actions.
- Provides general assistance to engineering and maintenance teams during project execution.
- Uses CMMS and standard desktop tools to enter data, create reports, and track maintenance activities.
Reliability Engineering Technologist 2 ($94,500 - $ 154,600)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level this position is expected to:
- Assist in the development and refinement of preventive maintenance strategies using system performance data, technician feedback, and failure history to improve asset reliability.
- Structure and maintain asset hierarchy and master data within the CMMS.
- Create, revise, and validate technical drawings and documentation using CAD tools; actively participate in design reviews and maintenance readiness assessments.
- Support equipment configuration, upgrades, and reviews of vendor technical proposals.
- Evaluate PM effectiveness and scheduling in collaboration with planners, recommending improvements based on work history and equipment criticality.
- Lead small tasks or workstreams within engineering projects and serve as a technical resource/mentor to junior technologists and maintenance personnel and lower level staff.
- Use CMMS and analytical software to monitor equipment performance, generate technical documentation, and communicate findings to engineering and operations teams.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Basic understanding of preventive maintenance concepts and procedures.
- Ability to utilize and understand CMMS systems.
- General mechanical or technical aptitude.
- Ability to follow instructions, document findings, and complete tasks on schedule.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
Additional Job Requirements for Engineering Technologist 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Working knowledge of PM development principles, maintenance task analysis, and failure mode mitigation.
- Basic understanding of asset hierarchy standards (e.g., ISO 14224 or similar) and experience managing asset master data in a CMMS.
- Sound knowledge of mathematical and engineering principles used in evaluating equipment and system performance.
- Knowledge of maintenance work planning and control processes.
- Understanding of industry standards, Laboratory protocols, and/or relevant DOE/NNSA compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in technical documentation, reporting, and use of software tools for engineering and maintenance analysis.
Education/Experience at Engineering Technologist 1 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at Engineering Technologist 2 level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience using Asset Suites.
- Active Q Clearance.
- Certifications as a Certified Reliability Leader or Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Work Schedule: This position will be 4 10-hour shifts Monday-Thursday.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
