What You Will Do



As a SCIF Security Specialist 4 in the SCIF Operations Group (SSO-2) within the Sensitive and Special Operations (SSO) Division, you will support Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF), Special Access Program Facilities, and Field Intelligence Element (FIE) activities. Provide direct supervision and instruction to other SCIF Security Specialists, as well as serve as the Alternate Special Security Officer responsible for applicable topical areas. You will represent SSO during customer interactions internal and external to the Laboratory for execution of assigned duties. Be responsible for compliance with LANL and DOE policies and procedures governing these unique and specialized operations. Make on-going recommendations for improvement of operations and work activities. On-the-job (OJT) and external training will be required to ensure that you are properly certified to perform assigned functions in a challenging and rewarding environment.

This position will require occasional travel and working non-standard hours. You may be required to be on-call for duty at minimum of one week each month (24/7 including holidays). When on-call, you must be able to respond to the worksite within one hour.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:



General Security Experience

Professional/specialized knowledge and experience in the major security areas as: Information security, physical security, computer security, personnel security, classified matter management protection and control (CREM, documents, parts), accountable classified matter management (ACREM, accountable documents).

Technical Security Knowledge

Subject matter expert with SCIF and SAP security requirements and related operations and/or other high-security facilities. Extensive knowledge and experience with SCIF security functions requiring documentation, data management, as well as preparing, presenting security briefings and reports to all levels of internal and external customers. Experience assuming the lead for internal and external security audits/assessments and proven track record to ensure all corrective actions were completed.

Leadership/Mentorship

Knowledge and experience leading a team, providing support, mentorship and guidance to fellow group members in all relevant areas of security. Ability to provide direction and corrective action to subordinates regarding security questions and ensuring a clear understanding of the task(s). Proven track record of effective teaming abilities, conducting various types of research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions on situations affecting security and safeguards of SCIF's and SAP's.

Education:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of related education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a graduate degree may be desired.


Desired Qualification:

  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience with one or more of the following: ICDs, National Industrial Security Program Operations Manual (NISPOM) or relevant DOE Orders for Safeguards and Security. Experience working with and administering procedures in compliance with one or more of the following:
  • Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs)
  • National Industrial Security Program Operations Manual (NISPOM), or equivalent DOE Orders for Safeguards and Security operations
  • Previous Special Security Officer (SSO), Alternate Special Security Officer, Contractor Special Security Officer (CSSO) experience
  • Previous Program Security Officer (PSO) or Contractor Program Security Officer (CPSO) experience

Location:This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
