The Weapons Engineering Directorate (ALDW) seeks a proven and highly experienced Senior Digital Transformation Program Director to lead the Directorate's digital transformation strategy and help shape the Laboratory's broader approach to digital engineering.
This is a new initiative that will establish a unified digital engineering vision for ALDW-advancing the integration of model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital twins, and digital threads to modernize how LANL designs, develops, and delivers mission-critical systems.
Working within the Chief Engineer's Office, the Senior Digital Transformation Program Director will guide ALDW's transition toward model-based, data-driven engineering practices that enable collaboration, precision, and innovation across diverse technical disciplines. Through partnership and influence, this leader will also contribute to Laboratory-wide digital transformation efforts, aligning Directorate initiatives with emerging institutional strategies and standards.
As a thought leader and catalyst for change, this individual will build the strategy, architecture, and culture that advance digital engineering as a core enabler of LANL's national security mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the Weapons Engineering Directorate's digital transformation strategy-integrating model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital threads, and digital requirements management to include bridging the gap between digital design and real-world production.
- Unify and enhance digital engineering practices across ALDW, establishing frameworks and best practices that support interoperability and efficiency.
- Partner with Laboratory leadership and peers to align ALDW's strategy with evolving institutional digital engineering goals.
- Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team, expanding its capabilities and structure as digital transformation efforts evolve and additional technical groups are integrated.
- Collaborate extensively with key internal partners, including Weapons Production, Weapons Research Services, the Prototype Fabrication Division, Advanced Manufacturing, Design Definition, and Advanced Systems Engineering.
- Engage externally with the National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Defense, National Security Enterprise sites, the National Team for Enterprise Digital Transformation, and industry partners such as PTC and other tool vendors.
- Drive digital culture change by promoting modern tools, data-centric design approaches, and agile engineering processes within a framework of safety, security, and operational excellence in all aspects of digital transformation.
- Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to foster innovation, technical excellence, and cross-organizational collaboration in digital engineering.
- Represent ALDW and LANL in executive forums, workshops, and interagency initiatives focused on digital transformation and model-based engineering.

Demonstrated success developing and executing a digital engineering strategy that supports current programs and future growth.
Collaboration
Exceptional skill and proven experience building partnerships across engineering, program management, and operations to align tools, processes, and staffing with organizational objectives. Recognized thought leader in digital engineering, representing the organization in external collaborations, conferences, and industry working groups.
Business Operations
Established record of success in budget development, cost management, and strategic resource planning for large, complex programs. Demonstrated ability to manage scope, schedules, and workforce development to achieve transformational goals and implement continuous improvement frameworks.
Leadership
Proven track record of leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing digital engineering teams within digital or systems engineering environments. Skilled at setting clear vision and direction, empowering teams, and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Experienced in building organizational capability by coaching talent, driving cross-functional alignment, and guiding teams through complex challenges to deliver impactful results.
Communication
Outstanding communicator with a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, from engineers to senior leadership. Proven success in fostering transparency, ensuring alignment across teams, and representing organizational priorities with influence and clarity. Skilled in preparing and delivering impactful presentations, reports, and updates that support decision-making and advance digital engineering initiatives.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 12 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Extensive Experience in the Nuclear Weapons Complex
Demonstrated experience working in the field of Weapon Engineering Design, production, and qualification.
Experienced in Business Systems
Experience with tools such as Cameo, PDMLink, Creo, and DOORs Next or similar engineer platforms.
Strategic Collaboration
Strong record of inter-agency coordination and external engagement, including collaboration across the National Security Enterprise. Ability to shape institutional strategies through partnership, foresight, and technical leadership.
Desired Education and Certifications
Master's degree in engineering, systems engineering, or business management.
Clearance
This position requires the ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
