The Stockpile and Enterprise Analytics Office (SEA-Office) in the Deputy Directorate for Weapons (DDW) is seeking an experienced Software Developer to support our analytics capabilities and functions. The office staff and collaborators provide data, analytical resources, and technical expertise to analyze business operational data and their inter-dependencies at the laboratory. The analytics work involves integrating business, workforce, infrastructure and technical information, and developing tools to inform Weapons leadership advocacy, planning, and decision-making activities. The office responds to and/or provides oversights on data/analysis requests, and enterprise-level modeling efforts associated with site integrated capabilities. The office funds and has collaborative modeling/tool development activities and analysis projects with several organizations throughout the Laboratory and within the NNSA complex.
The Software Developer will work with an internal customer, SCRUM Master, and Systems Analyst as a combination data engineer and dashboard developer. This position entails integrating data from multiple databases and other sources into a SQL Server database, manipulating the data as needed, and using MicroStrategy to present interactive dashboards to the end user. You will get to work closely with the customer to identify evolving requirements, and then creatively engineer solutions to aid with pattern discovery and management decision making.
Position will be a hybrid working environment, with the expectation of at least one day per week being on-site. Additional time on-site may be required depending on scope and/or deliverables.
The Software Developer 2 is a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of a specialized information technology (IT) field plus working knowledge of other related IT fields.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Supports software applications and systems by investigating, designing, documenting and implementing software solutions. Works with customers, product owners and end users to understand business needs. Develops concepts for information system solutions and evaluates the cost effectiveness of those concepts. Works collaboratively as part of a team working on assigned tasks, guided by more experienced team members. Fosters strong relationships with customers, peers and service providers. Identifies and addresses productivity impediments and promotes work process improvements.
Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to support and enhance enterprise IT systems, including troubleshooting, configuration, and data management. Working knowledge of relational databases (SQL/PL-SQL), application integration, and system configuration. Familiarity with data reporting and analytics tools such as MicroStrategy, Power BI, or Denodo.
Software & Data Development: Proficiency in scripting or programming (SQL). Ability to manage, clean, integrate, and visualize data across multiple databases and environments.
Communication & Collaboration: Ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical, actionable insights for non-technical audiences. Strong teamwork skills; able to work collaboratively with both technical and business partners. Contacts discipline staff specialists as needed for specialized information systems activities. Contacts business analysts, database administrators and system administrators as needed for specialized information systems activities.
Database & Reporting: Foundational knowledge of SQL queries, data validation, and report development. Ability to maintain data quality and assist with integrity checks across interconnected databases. Familiarity using the SCRUM farmwork and JIRA/kanban.
Clearance: Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship, except in exceedingly rare circumstances.
Education and Experience Required: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of CRES, P6, or COBRA.
- Basic programming skills in Python, Java, or C++
- Working knowledge in program, line, or project management in LANL operational work.
- Working knowledge of nuclear weapons, the nuclear security enterprise, and NNSA capabilities and programs that support the U.S. stockpile.

The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment:
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
