The Solutions Architect serves as the lead architect for complex hardware, software, database, networking, and telecommunications solutions within the Actinide Analytical Chemistry (C-AAC) group. This role is responsible for gathering and defining requirements and translating them into integrated solutions that support both the commercial off-the-shelf Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and internally developed systems.
The Solutions Architect leads the implementation of these solutions, providing full project management oversight. Responsibilities include maintaining software documentation, updating procedures and test scripts, coordinating training, and managing budgets, schedules, resources, and overall project outcomes.
With specialized expertise in LabWare LIMS, the Solutions Architect contributes to strategic objectives and guiding principles while driving organizational success through innovative approaches. The role involves developing advanced concepts, techniques, and standards based on professional principles and theory. As a recognized Laboratory-wide LIMS expert, the Solutions Architect addresses complex and uncommon challenges, delivering creative solutions that require evaluation of both technical and intangible factors.
This position influences the development of future concepts, products, and technologies. Operating with consultative guidance toward long-range objectives, the Solutions Architect functions with substantial autonomy. Work is often self-initiated, requiring independent judgment and broad discretion in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to achieve results.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Expert knowledge and demonstrated application of current and future LabWare brand LIMS software, network, telecommunication, data management, security, hardware, software development, and systems programming technologies, how they interoperate, and how to architect complex solutions.
- Outstanding ability to assess both technical and server environmental needs to bring disparate team members together to achieve a successful project outcome
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational and project management skills.
- Demonstrated team-building experience with technologists.
- Excellent collaborative skills working with all levels of management to achieve successful implementations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in troubleshooting complex functions within the LIMS software and database platform and computing solutions across multiple IT focus areas using various technologies or methods.
- Demonstrated experience of creating a database and installation of LabWare LIMS software, including maintenance, data management and security structure.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in automating instruments to LIMS communication links for laboratory operations including troubleshooting. experience in hardware, software development in various programming languages and systems programming technologies.
- Certification in LabWare LIMS including at a completion of LabWare LIMS Admin 1 and 2 training, LabWare ELN Administrator. Attendance and acquisition of other LabWare LIMS training or greater than 3 years of experience in LabWare based configuration development and deployment.
- Experience and demonstrated skill in investigating alternative solutions and recommending solutions for problems affecting LabWare LIMS system architecture. Experience and demonstrated skill in analyzing processes for improvement and applying the results of such analytical efforts, preferably in a LIMS environment.
- Experience working with Safety Software, Configuration Management software, confidential or proprietary information, and sensitive information.
Education/Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
