Join our world-class team at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)! Now is your chance to make a difference in supporting our national security mission. The XCP-4 (Continuum Models and Numerical Methods) is seeking applicants for staff scientists with experience in the development of algorithms and codes for computer aided geometric design and mesh generation. XCP-4 is responsible for the design and implementation of a wide variety of physical models including high explosive and turbulence models and is a leader in the development of numerical methods for hydrodynamics simulations, remap and code linking algorithms, and mesh generation.
The successful candidate will contribute within a collaborative team environment to research, develop, implement, and integrate methods for computer aided geometric design, computational geometry, and mesh generation for initializing a broad range of multiphysics code simulations. The successful candidate will work in all parts of the development lifecycle to include methods research, software design and engineering, testing, DevOps, user support and documentation. The candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that also includes research and development on methods for field remapping, material interface tracking, code-to-code linking, and automated simulation workflows. All the work is done in high performance computing environments with multi-core CPUs and GPUs.
The successful candidate will actively participate in team decisions on algorithms and research, collaborate with team members to develop and maintain software, provide user support, and mentor students and postdocs; therefore, the ability to work well in a team environment is extremely important, as is the ability to interact with users in an efficient and productive manner.
