What You Will Do
The Engineered Materials group (MST-7) at Los Alamos National Laboratory uses our material science expertise to address national security objectives. MST-7 is looking for an undergraduate engineering student to join our group for the summer during a 3-month internship and contribute to the future of national security. As an undergraduate engineering student, you will be provided with an opportunity to gain practical experience under the guidance of a mentor working to assist in material science research, design, testing, analysis, verification, and validation of engineering and technology solutions in support of R&D initiatives. You will also work alongside a team of individuals with extensive experience in a wide array of skillsets and selected interns will also have access to an array of professional development and networking opportunities provided by the Lab's Student Program office.

Work Schedule:
Onsite/Hybrid: This position is located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for a hybrid work arrangement (partially onsite/partially offsite) from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be regularly required. Hybrid is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice. Some interns may work a 9/80 schedule at the discretion of management and in accordance with the Student Programs Office guidebook.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, practices, and procedures, as demonstrated by experience researching, designing, testing, analyzing, verifying, and validating engineering solutions.
- Basic knowledge along with any class project experience with analysis or testing in one or more of the following STEM areas: Biology, Chemistry, Coding, Manufacturing, Physics, Nuclear, Materials, Math, Data acquisition and analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to express ideas clearly in oral and written communications.
Education/Experience:
- Currently enrolled (12 semester credit hours or full-time equivalent) in an accredited undergraduate degree-granting program (or international equivalent)
- Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Entering first-year students must provide documentation indicating matriculation into an accredited undergraduate degree program.
