The Weapon Systems Safety Analysis Group (W-10) is seeking to fill a Weapon Response (WR) Analyst (SEPM 3). The successful candidate will work alongside a motivated, multidisciplinary team of Weapon Response Analysts to characterize LANL's standpoint on our components, systems, sub-systems and assemblies and their responses to hazard scenarios.The individual will also help organize and oversee the execution of the group's increasing project work scope. WR analysts interface with internal LANL SMEs and system owners to best represent the position of the institution in terms of safety, vulnerabilities, and potential mitigation actions to protect the function and ensure the safety of our weapons.W-10 analysts consult with external design laboratories including Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), and the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE).
Major responsibilities of W-10 Weapon Response Analysts include developing weapon response information, coordinating with Subject Matter Expert (SMEs) to develop information, writing documentation, and providing briefings on weapon response.At this level you will be interfacing with production engineering, hazard analysis task teams, production technicians, and safety basis analysts to support development and communication of the weapon response information. Supporting new knowledge, sharing initiatives within the group, and providing mentorship to junior staff will be a part of the position.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Nuclear Explosive Operations: Knowledge and experience in nuclear or explosive operations and/or requirements, including safety, safeguards and security, explosive safety, radiation protection, waste management, criticality safety, conduct of operations, authorization basis, and the integration of these requirements into a cohesive and functional design and execution strategy.
Project Management: Knowledge and experience with all aspects oftechnical project management of programmatic work with NNSA programs including defining program work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities, and performance milestones; developing cost, scope, and schedule baselines; reporting cost and schedule variances; and managing change control and risk. Ability to document a project throughout its lifecycle.
Teaming: Proven experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to solve challenging and complex problems. Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to perform assessments, walkdown new processes, develop weapon response and evaluate control criteria, maintain evaluation results, and present findings orally and in writing to multiple levels of management in the Nuclear Weapon Complex.
Collaboration: Coordinate with organizations internal and external to LANL to effectively discuss technical points and to recommend acceptable engineering solutions. Demonstrated experience interacting effectively with all levels of external and internal personnel including but not limited to: building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
Communication: Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills as evidenced by technical reports, public speaking at conferences, presenting briefings to stakeholders, etc. Expertise in presenting highly complex technical information to a non-technical audience in an understandable format as well as to technical experts in appropriate detail.
Education/Experience:Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a science or engineering related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related technical and program management experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and technical experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of weapon systems, explosive subsystems, and components.
- Familiarity with the Laboratory weapons production development and programmatic activities.
- Experience in formal hazard analysis and safety basis processes.
- Experience in probabilistic risk assessment methodologies and applications in nuclear explosive operations.
- Experience working with classified material and as a Derivative Classifier (DC).
- Experience working with explosive assemblies, including hydros, JTAs, etc.
- Knowledge of engineering authorization systems, document management systems (e.g., PDM Link or like software) and applications to stockpile maintenance and configuration management.
- Active Q clearance and the ability to obtain Human reliability program (HRP) certification.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
