Work Management Center Specialist (Project Specialist 2/3)

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Project Specialist 2/Project Specialist 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.


The Work Management Specialist 2/3 will assists and supports the Manager of Projects/Project Manager or the established Integrated Project Team (IPT) members to successfully execute a set of program/project objectives. This position will be supporting ALDPI (Plutonium Infrastructure) Work Management Center in providing oversight and control of all construction IWDs.

Supports project management and the IPT in coordinating and administering a project from project planning through construction and closeout. Communicate with customers to report progress or resolve problems. Represents the program/project team as delegated. Mentors' entry level Project Specialists. Assists in planning and establishing program/project goals, monitors progress to assure schedules/goals are met and work is performed given parameters.

Project Specialist 2 ($71,200-$112,900)
The Project Specialist 2 assists and supports the Manager of Projects or the established Integrated Project Team (IPT) members to successfully execute a set of project objectives.

Assists project management teams and high level Work Management Center Specialist and the IPT in coordinating and administering a project from project planning through construction. Participates in organizing project plans, schedules, forecasts, parameters, etc., and monitors progress to assure schedules are met.

Project Specialist 3 ($85,900-$139,900)
The Project Specialist 3 assists and supports the Project Manager or the established Integrated Project Team (IPT) members to successfully execute a set of project objectives.

Assists project management and the Integrated Project Team (IPT) in coordinating and administering a project from project planning through construction. Represents the project manager as delegated. Participates in organizing project plans, schedules, forecasts, parameters, etc., and monitors progress to assure schedules are met.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Familiarity with project management, and construction activities with the ability to become proficient and assist Work Management Center supervision.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques relating to construction project activities.
  • Technical comprehension of engineering, and construction techniques including their interfaces and interdependencies.
  • Ability to develop, document, articulate and present project scope and overall schedule to Manager of Projects/Project Manager and IPT.
  • Ability to independently research, assemble and analyze information or data related to assigned area.
  • Ability to use, implement and deploy digital tracking systems (e.g. APEX) to ensure traceability of work packages.

Additional Job Requirements for level 3:

  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques relating to construction project activities.
  • Technical comprehension of engineering, procurement, and construction techniques, including their interfaces and interdependencies.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in applying team building concepts.

Education/Experience Project Specialist 2:
Level 2 - This position is expected to be at an entry level in construction-related fields. Three or more years of construction or engineering related experience required.

Education/Experience Project Specialist 3:
Level 3 - Five or more years of construction or engineering related experience required.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
