The Accelerator Operations Manager 4 in the LANSCE Facility Operations organization reports to the LANSCE Facility Operations Director (FOD). The position provides leadership, technical direction, and oversight of facility operations for the Accelerator as it relates to FOD responsibilities. This position directs daily operations and coordinates facility activities to ensure safe and compliant operations. The Operations Manager will ensure the overall safety and security of operations and will ensure deployed functions (e.g., ESH&Q, Engineering, Maintenance) are accountable for their performance in support of operations in their respective areas of responsibility. This position will provide oversight during shutdowns, upgrades, and production and provide technical expertise during accelerator maintenance outages. The Operations Manager will strive to provide extraordinary customer service to facility tenants, programmatic operations, and other customers within assigned facilities. Additionally, responsibilities include managing accelerator safety basis and asset management staff, guiding these teams in portfolio management and customer engagement.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain operation of the accelerator within the established Accelerator Safety Envelope (ASE).
- Provide oversite necessary to assure compliance with safety and security policies, environmental requirements, and other applicable DOE/governmental orders.
- Oversee Conduct of Operations and support Conduct of Maintenance and Engineering processes as they pertain to accelerator operations.
- Provide oversight and technical guidance during accelerator operations and maintenance.
- Own role as primary point of contact for facility related issues, including coordination of maintenance, programmatic activities, and communication with facility tenants.
- Take ownership and direct responsibility for facility/system operating condition to include configuration management and control.
- Serve as an expert resource in the operation and monitoring of facility systems that support accelerator operations.
- Leads, coordinates, and ensures compliance with Operations process for planning, activity review, and progress tracking.
- Participate in the LANSCE-FO Duty Officer program and serve on rotation as a Duty Officer. Ability to respond to abnormal and emergency events during off-shift hours.
- Manage accelerator safety basis and asset management teams.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of accelerator operations and systems and the interfaces with facility systems and operations.
- Thorough knowledge of requirements for accelerator safety basis.
- Demonstrated operations leadership and supervisory oversight including technical direction, program execution and good business practices/judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a member of a division-level management team; to work effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel; and to gain consensus, build teams, and resolve conflicts.
- Thorough knowledge of Conduct of Operations program.
- Experience and demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating solutions, and determining action to be performed.
- Demonstrated understanding and implementation of work planning and control including hazard identification, hazards analysis, and control implementation applying the hierarchy of controls for a wide range of complex, hazardous activities.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills to include presentations and report writing.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree (preferably Physics, or related technical discipline) and 8 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience dealing with organizations deployed to the FOD (Maintenance, Engineering, Safety Basis, Operations, Radiation Protection, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to oversee accelerator operations and safety basis program implementation.
- Demonstrated experience in implementation of LANL Conduct of Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Training programs.
- Demonstrated experience in abnormal event response and incident/occurrence investigations and lessons learned.
- Demonstrated experience leading process improvement initiatives with evidence of successful outcomes.
- Successful completion of the U.S. Particle Accelerator School's Accelerator Fundamentals course.
- Experience in all aspects of personnel management.
- Active Q-Clearance.

Work Environment
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
