The LANSCE accelerator facility at LANL is a center for applied research and development in accelerator-focused technologies, supporting Free Electron Lasers, National Security Science programs, and future accelerator missions. The Facility Maintenance Group plays a vital role in enabling safe and secure, world-class research and accelerator operations by delivering exceptional facility services, including maintenance.
MSS-LFO, a team deployed from the Maintenance and Site Services Division, provides comprehensive maintenance support for both facility and programmatic equipment. Their primary mission is to ensure LANSCE operates with safe, reliable, and efficient infrastructure maintenance.
The MSS-LFO Group Leader must have a strong background in maintenance and facility engineering to successfully guide the team toward supporting world-class maintenance. This position will provide technical leadership and management for the MSS LFO team and will work closely with the Facility Operations Director for the management of facilities supporting research, development, and testing for weapons engineering and manufacturing for the Department of Defense programs. Operating within the defined safety basis, this position is responsible for the following technical areas: facility maintenance, operation of facility support systems, work management (installation & modifications, corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance), and scheduling.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Facility Management
In-depth knowledge of and experience with facility management including systems engineering design and maintenance; safety/authorization basis; configuration management programs; work control; facility control systems; major construction projects; and upgrades and renovations. Demonstrated experience with government regulations affecting facility maintenance and management.
Maintenance Operations
In-depth knowledge of and experience with facility work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience and ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics. Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting performance.
Leadership
Demonstrated experience and skill in management, supervision, and human resources administration of assigned employees. Demonstrated experience and skill developing and implementing organizational strategies and objectives. Demonstrated experience negotiating, change thinking of, or gain acceptance from peers, upper management, and customers in sensitive situations without damage to relationships. Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership, mentorship, prioritization, and management of assigned employees in a collaborative and participative environment to build strong teams. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills within a facility management work environment.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Training/Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) Certification and/or Professional Certification as a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) desired.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with an accelerator Safety Assessment Document (SAD), Accelerator Safety Envelope (ASE).
- In-depth knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational structure.
- Demonstrated experience with LANL business systems for management and administration of personnel including timekeeping, payroll, budgeting, travel, training and certification, performance reviews, and payroll policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated in depth knowledge of LANL maintenance program policy and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and present safety and technical briefings to large groups of a diverse workforce representative of all types and levels of workers.
- Active Q clearance.
- Experience planning facility maintenance during facility outages.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
