The Engineering Services - Fire Protection Facilities (ES-FPF) Group Leader (GL) provides fire protection and prevention services to minimize fire-related risks that enable the Laboratory's national security mission. You will work closely with the Deputy Division Leader, the Fire Marshal, Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD), the Los Alamos Site Office and Triad leadership. As the Facility Operations & LAFD Support Group Leader, you will:
- Lead and manage fire protection assessments, fire inspection deficiency management, fire department liaising, and operational work to include defining work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities, and performance milestones
- Work closely with the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD), the Los Alamos Site Office and Triad leadership to determine, plan, oversee and execute work scope in the management of the contract to provide emergency services to LANL between the county of Los Alamos and DOE/NNSA
- Experience with DOE Order 420.1C, NFPA Standards and the Baseline Needs Assessment (BNA) to provide emergency services at LANL. Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a program and provide direction to Fire Protection Office
- Direct the strategic activities of fire protection specialists and technologists executing work in accordance with Department of Energy (DOE) facility requirements to integrate and support the mission and goals of the Laboratory's facility and programmatic operations
- Communicate with all levels of internal and external customers to define and recommend cross-organizational operational objectives, develop short and long-term plans for portfolio projects, and monitor progress to ensure objectives are attained and customer requirements are met
Leadership/Management
- Provide leadership, vision, and tactical planning for assigned program scope, which requires integration across organizations
- Ensure daily open communication with workers (including subcontractors) that promotes an environment where workers feel comfortable bringing errors, system weaknesses, and issues to management attention
- Recruit, hire, and develop, train and mentor staff
- Work to identify upcoming strategic shifts of relevance to the institutional mission and warn leadership of potential issues and solutions
- Develop staffing plans in accordance with customer requirements and within budget constraints
- Providing leadership in resolution of technical and personnel issues
- Recruit, hire, and develop, train and mentor staff
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing fire protection specialists and technologists in support of facility operations
- Demonstrated success in effectively interfacing with all levels of internal management, customers, oversight organizations, and occasionally members of the public
- Demonstrated capability in successfully developing internal and external customer relationships and achieving a high degree of customer satisfaction. Expertise in negotiation with customers and support organizations to resolve conflicts
- Demonstrated experience in leading critical service deliverables related to emergency services contract requirements, facility safety issues, fire department administration requirements (e.g., training, pre-incident plans, tours and drills, and baseline needs assessments), fire protection assessments, deficiency tracking, issues management, or facility service requests
- Experience managing a multi-million-dollar budget
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience executing work in compliance with facility requirements
- Knowledgeable of Integrated Work Management (IWM) and integrated safety and security management (ISSM) procedures
- Experience with nuclear high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution
- Knowledge/experience of NFPA Standards, LANL Engineering Standards Manual, DOE Orders and Standards related to facility design, construction, and project management

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
