ISSO (Computer & Information Security Specialist 2/3)

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computer & Information Security Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

As a Computer & Information Security Specialist 2/3, you will be a member of the Chief information Security Office (CISO) - Cyber Security (CISO-CS) group working with the Technical Security Team. This team plans, coordinates, and assists with security compliance and accreditation related to enterprise networks and IT systems, including security plan management, protected distribution systems (PDS), TEMPEST, and Communications Security (COMSEC).

Computer & Information Security Specialist 2 ($83,900 - $136,600)
  • Operational activities of the TEMPEST program.
  • Assessing, interpreting, and implementing national policy as it pertains to the NNSA Technical Security Program policy.
  • Implementing TEMPEST countermeasures and evaluate TEMPEST plans.
  • Conducting annual reviews to determine if existing TEMPEST countermeasures are effective using current DoE/NNSA policies and threat assessments.
  • Participating in the overall TEMPEST program to satisfy national policy requirements.
  • Maintaining control/accountability of all NNSA authorized RF devices at LANL.
  • Collaborating with the Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) program and Cyber Security entities on a variety of issues pertaining to the electronic processing of data and potential vulnerabilities that may arise.

Computer & Information Security Specialist 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in TEMPEST requirements for facility evaluation, evaluate the deployment of wireless technology integration for LANL missions.
  • Provide mentorship for more junior team members.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Technical knowledge of and experience with technical vulnerability assessment fundamentals and principles.
  • Ability to complete TEMPEST course work (TEMPEST Fundamentals Course and TEMPEST for System Installation/Facility Design Course) to be certified as an NNSA TEMPEST Site Coordinator.
  • Interpersonal skills that foster teamwork and indicated ability to interact professionally across LANL and with liaison partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare documentation, presentations and briefings for senior level management.

Additional Job Requirements for Level 3:
  • Advanced technical knowledge of and experience with technical vulnerability assessment fundamentals and principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of National TEMPEST Policy and appropriate References per DoE Order 470.6.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable

Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Technical Security, TSCM, COMSEC, PDS, or Cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated experience developing briefings and presentations for senior level management.
  • Active TS/SCI or current DoE Q-clearance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
