Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a skilled professional to join our Engineering Services (ES) Division as a Systems Engineer. As a vital member of the ES Division you will contribute to the implementation of the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at LANL in support of systems, structure and component modifications and new installations, as well as supporting existing systems, modifications and customers occupying the facilities. This position supports the Weapons Facilities Operations (WFO) portfolio consisting of nuclear, accelerator and non-nuclear facilities, spanning half of the laboratory's footprint. As an Accelerator Systems Engineer in this area, you will directly support facilities with a direct impact on LANL's stockpile stewardship mission. Daily tasks include but are not limited to response to emerging facility issues, configuration management including facility technical baseline management, electrical/pressure safety support, reviewing designs for facility modification, and providing system health reporting.
Note: This position will be filled at either the Engineer 1/Engineer 2 level depending on the skills and/or experience of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Engineer 1 ($94,500 - $154,600)
As an Accelerator Systems Engineer with Engineering Services, you will serve as the owner's representative for engineering for your assigned facilities. You will concurrently interface with design teams, maintenance, and operations, shaping LANL's facilities and infrastructure to serve the needs of a growing and changing portfolio. - Support accelerator facilities safety systems
- Obtain, evaluate and compare equipment selections from manufacturer's representatives
- Provide control and maintenance of the technical baseline of the facility equipment while ensuring facility system configuration is being managed effectively using a risk-based graded approach
- Assist in defining maintenance requirements involving corrective maintenance and the tracking and trending of system performance, provide information for preventative maintenance scheduling, and perform regular facility system walkdowns and Facility Health Reports
- Review design outputs for impact to technical baseline and Master Equipment Lists (MEL), and control and maintain the MEL for assigned facilities
- Coordinate with Pressure Safety Officer (PSO) on facility pressure safety systems
- Review Integrated Work Documents (IWDs), provide technical interface to existing facility systems and components, and support configuration management
- Be a source of expert knowledge of assigned facilities and facility safety documentation, and navigate and implement prevailing industry codes and standards
- Follow the LANL Conduct of Engineering (CoE) Program in support of facility modifications and facility configuration management in accordance with the LANL Engineering Standards Manual (ESM), LANL Administrative Procedures (APs), LANL Master Specifications, and related Codes and Standards
In addition to duties listed above, the level 2 role includes the following job duties:
- Develop skills to independently run all engineering facets of a project from scoping to construction to sustainment
- Foster relationships with project stakeholders and customers as a representative of Engineering Services

- Awareness and increasing experience in the implementation of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards and guides, as well as industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline

- Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures
