Applied Engineering Analyst (R&D Engineer 3/4)
- Req. Number: IRC139690
- Organization : Product Realization and Reliability Office (PRRO)
- City, State: Los Alamos, New Mexico
Welcome to the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) and the Product Realization and Reliability Office (PRRO) of the Nuclear Production Operations (NPO) branch organization. NPO is primarily responsible for the production of complex plutonium pit-related products of exceptional complexity, quality, and value. Our production mission is essential for the US nuclear deterrent and thus essential to protect our nation and promote world order.
PRRO both develops and provides specific engineering capability as is necessary for ALDWP/NPO. NPO consists of three divisions, 1) Pit Technologies (PT) which is responsible for the fabrication of plutonium components and the subsequent assembly of pits, 2) Plutonium Supply and Disposition (PSD) which is responsible for plutonium foundry operations and material recovery and recycle operations and 3) Power Supply Production (PSP) which is responsible for Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTG) production. We are confident that you will find PRRO a dynamic and rewarding place to work.
PRRO is seeking Applied Engineering Analysts to provide engineering analysis support for all ALDWP/NPO production activities. This includes detailed process modeling of all production processes including metal refining, melting, casting, heat treat, forming, machining, and welding. Also included is comprehensive analytical support for the design and development of all production tooling, fixturing as well as new bespoke process equipment.
The selected candidate will be responsible for detailed analyses that will cover a wide range of difficult problems requiring solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organizational objectives. The analysis tasks will span the spectrum from simple problems requiring classical hand calculations to highly sophisticated multi-physics problems requiring the utilization of state-of-the-art finite element methods with commercial computer codes. The analyst will be held accountable for completing and documenting his/her work within the agreed upon cost and schedule. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to present their work for peer reviews and to be a peer reviewer for other engineers' work.
We value diverse skills and experience, so don't hold back. Your specific qualification could add tremendous value to our team. Our customers come from all different backgrounds, and so do our employees. If you're passionate about what you could accomplish here, we'd love to hear from you.
This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 3 or R&D Engineer 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher R&D 4 level.
R&D Engineer 3 $125,200 - $211,300
At the R&D Engineer 3 level the selected candidate will be responsible for detailed analyses that will cover a wide range of difficult problems requiring solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organizational objectives. The analyst will be held accountable for completing and documenting work within the agreed upon cost and schedule. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to present their work for peer reviews and to be a peer reviewer for other engineers' work.
R&D Engineer 4 $150,300 - $260,800
In addition to what was outlined at the R&D Engineer 3 level, at the R&D Engineer 4 level you are expected to have a very high degree of relevant technical competence and be a recognized technical leader and/or leader of teams of engineering analysts. You will be required to provide technical leadership and oversight to members of an analysis team, interface with customers, and engage in strategic planning to advance LANL's capabilities.
