Digital Engineering Generalist (Scientist 1)

What You Will Do


The Product Realization and Reliability Office (PRRO) in Nuclear Production Operations consists of a multidisciplinary group of engineers and scientists that support plutonium programs (i.e., pit production, surveillance, research & development, and subcritical experiments) across the entire Nuclear Production Operations organization.

PRRO is seeking a digital engineering generalist to support standardization of process and data usage in support of factory floor improvements. The objective of this role is to standardize information collection practices, develop solutions for leveraging the data to drive factory floor change, and link the information with other systems (PLM/MRP/MES/RMS etc.). This position will primarily be office work with intermittent trips to the shop floor. The generalist position will provide as-needed support to different digital engineering initiatives and achieve a broad understanding of the digital engineering domain. Training for specific digital engineering capabilities will be provided.

The selected candidate will be responsible for-
  • Supporting the development of continuous improvement opportunities that leverage digital engineering capabilities
  • Co-writing policies and procedures for managing specific information objects
  • Supporting capability leads in developing specific digital engineering capabilities from concept through to production implementation
  • Supporting Nuclear Productions workforce in using digital engineering capabilities (PLM, RMS, MBSE, etc.)
  • Supporting requirements gathering and user feedback collection from Nuclear Productions workforce

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Experience planning and executing projects of low complexity
  • Experience creating and using engineering models in at least one domain (mCAD, eCAD, MBSE, FEA, Requirements etc.)
  • Ability to code simple programs / proof of concept within an object oriented language.
  • Strong documentation skills; demonstrated ability to document technical results in a formal method/format
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong presentation skills
Q Clearance: This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by, or on behalf of, the Federal Government for access to classified matter.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
