What You Will Do

Join the Occupational Health (OH) Division responsible for ensuring the health and wellbeing of Los Alamos National Laboratory employees. OH collaborates and innovates with LANL partners to create a safe and healthy workplace for LANL employees through the provision of an exceptional ergonomics program, a comprehensive occupational medicine program, a robust behavioral health program and a wellness center that offers a broad range of health promotion and injury prevention services.

As a member of the Occupational Health Ergonomics Services Group (OH-ES), you will report to the Group Leader and provide Ergonomics Services to a deployed customer. The selected candidate will be expected to provide office, non-office/industrial and glovebox ergonomic services, demonstration room visits and exceptional customer support. The ideal candidate will have experience in preventing work-related musculoskeletal disorders, enhancing employee wellbeing and ensuring safe work performance. This position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams and implementing proactive solutions for ergonomic challenges. You will be expected to work without appreciable direction and to support the Laboratory Agenda in how you do your work.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Demonstrates an understanding of office ergonomic risk factors with a diverse range of complexity, and how the application of ergonomic principles can minimize work-related musculoskeletal disorders
  • Demonstrates an understanding of industrial ergonomics risk factors with moderate complexity, and how the application of ergonomic principles can minimize work-related musculoskeletal disorders
  • Knowledge of and experience with patient advocacy and occupational health issues including protection of patient health information
  • Strong organizational skills managing multiple small projects simultaneously, where one or more team members must coordinate skills to deliver a product or service to a customer
  • Experience with data analysis that requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Professional demeanor in interactions with management and employees
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

This position is subject to DOE 426.2 which requires a Bachelor's of Science, 2 years of job-related experience, and 1 year of nuclear experience.




Desired Qualifications:

  • Ergonomics certification such as those provided by the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (AEP, CPE, AHFP, CHFP), The Back School Certified Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist (CEAS), Oxford Research Institute (CAE, CIE, CHFEP) or similar
  • Background in ergonomics, human factors, public health, kinesiology, physical or occupational therapy, sports science or related fields
  • Advanced understanding of the science and application of ergonomics, including use of ergonomic assessment tools and anthropometric data
  • Evidence-based or regulatory literature research skills for the preparation and presentation of ergonomics to a diverse audience
  • Familiarity with relevant health and safety regulations (e.g., CFR, OSHA)
  • Experience with ergonomics in glovebox (biological and/or radiological) and/or laboratory (pipetting, microscope, etc.) environments


Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching overhead, horizontally, down, lifting 10-20 pounds, carrying 5-10 pounds.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position may require participation in an on-call rotation and/or could involve occasional hours outside normal hours. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.




Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
