What You Will Do
The Maintenance and Site Services Automation and Performance Technologies (MSS-APT) group supports facility operations through the implementation and sustainment of enterprise asset management (EAM), building automation systems (BAS), and data-driven maintenance solutions. These systems enable Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) to safely and efficiently execute maintenance and operations in compliance with Laboratory requirements.

The Field Operations Support Specialist serves as a field-facing support resource for Asset Suite and Mobile Work Package (MWP) users. This role works directly with facility personnel to support day-to-day use of maintenance IT systems, identify process improvement opportunities, and ensure solutions align with operational needs.

This position combines customer support, process understanding, and technical coordination to improve user experience and operational effectiveness across organizations.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide front-line customer support for Asset Suite and MWP users, including troubleshooting, issue triage, and user guidance in both office and field environments
  • Work directly with FOD personnel to understand operational workflows, gather user feedback, and identify opportunities for process and system improvements
  • Support the maintenance and accuracy of the Master Equipment List (MEL) and related asset data within enterprise systems
  • Assist in the implementation and refinement of business processes within EAM systems, including:
    • Gathering user requirements
    • Supporting configuration and setup activities
    • Assisting with testing and validation of system changes
    • Helping document workflows and implementation steps
  • Provide hands-on training and informal instruction to users at the point of use to improve adoption and effective system utilization
  • Support management of mobile device and tablet inventory, including tracking, basic troubleshooting, and coordination of replacements or updates
  • Maintain documentation such as process flows, user guides, job aids, and data tracking records
  • Coordinate with EAM solution architects and IT teams to escalate issues, support system updates, and ensure successful deployment of enhancements
  • Identify recurring issues or gaps and contribute to continuous improvement efforts by recommending practical, user-informed solutions
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with institutional cybersecurity, records management, and operational requirements field.
What You Need
Minimal Job Requirements:
Customer Service & Communication:

  • Serve as a bridge between field personnel and the EAM team, building a strong two-way understanding, learning operational needs from the field while helping users better leverage the technology that supports their work. Demonstrated ability to provide professional, responsive customer support to both technical and non-technical users. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across organizations.
Systems & Process Understanding:

  • Familiarity with maintenance management processes and enterprise systems such as CMMS/EAM platforms
  • Ability to understand how business processes are executed within IT systems and how users interact with those systems in daily operations
  • Experience supporting or contributing to the implementation or improvement of business processes, including gathering input, assisting with system changes, and participating in testing activities
Technology & Data:

  • Experience using standard business applications (e.g., Excel, SharePoint) to track work, manage data, and support reporting
  • Experience maintaining or supporting inventory tracking systems, including mobile devices, equipment, or related assets
  • Ability to document and track requests, issues, and resolutions in a structured manner
Field Support:

  • Ability and willingness to work in field environments to support users, evaluate workflows, and provide hands-on assistance
  • Experience troubleshooting mobile applications and coordinating resolution of technical issues
Education/Experience: Position requires a Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Asset Suite and/or Mobile Work Package (MWP), including support of mobile device fleets and basic troubleshooting of tablets or mobile applications
  • Familiarity with asset/inventory tracking systems, including maintaining IT or operational records and supporting Master Equipment Lists (MEL) or similar hierarchies
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance (PM) programs, including development, data entry, updates, and tracking within EAM/CMMS systems
  • Experience supporting or improving IT-based business processes (e.g., requirements gathering, system configuration, testing)
  • Background in field-facing or customer support roles working directly with operations or maintenance personnel
  • Ability to identify, communicate, and help implement process or system improvements across organizations
  • Experience working in cross-functional or coordination roles
  • Ability to develop training materials, job aids, and user documentation
  • Familiarity with LANL facility operations or Facility Operations Directorates (FODs)
  • Active Q clearance

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
