What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Production Control Specialist 2 or Production Control Specialist 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Detonator Production (DP) Division is the premier Production Agency (PA) assigned to produce War Reserve (WR) detonators for the Nation's nuclear stockpile security mission.

The Division is part of LANL's Weapons Production Directorate and is comprised of a team of motivated, highly skilled technical and operational support staff working in a matrixed structure. The organization is centered on high-rigor manufacturing operations to produce precision, safe, and reliable WR detonator products. DP partners closely with customers and stakeholders such as NNSA (National Nuclear Security Administration), Weapon System Design Agencies (LANL, Sandia, and Livermore), and LANL program management organizations to deliver on uniquely challenging, high-consequence national security objectives. DP upholds vigorous teamwork, personal integrity, a respectful workplace, and continuous improvement in operations, technical excellence, safety, and security.

Production Control Specialist 2 ($71,200-$112,900)

The Production Control Specialist 1 plays a key role in supporting the packaging and transportation of hazardous and classified materials, ensuring alignment with DP mission deliverables. This role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities essential to safety, security, and the successful delivery of products to a diverse customer base.

Key duties include, but are not limited to: Production Control Specialist 2
  • Gaining HE, HazMat, and classified matter handling qualifications
  • Supporting P&T operations.

Production Control Specialist 3 ($85,900 -$139,900)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, a Production Control Specialist 3, will be responsible for the following key duties:
  • Supporting Preparing QIs and PCDs using the SOMS system
  • Generating and managing shipping documentation
  • Conducting visual verification of parts
  • Maintaining qualifications in hazardous material and classified matter handling
  • Holding and maintaining HE handling qualifications
  • Supporting CKA assemblies

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Manufacturing Environment: Experience working in a manufacturing work environment, utilizing a resource planning system.
  • Teaming: Experience in being successful working independently as well as in a team environment; one of which is customer focused.
  • Process and Procedures: Experience implementing manufacturing process and writing procedure documentation.
  • Project Management: Experience with project-oriented work environments, tracking progress and monitoring performance.
  • Values and Behaviors: Commitment to Detonator Production's values and Behaviors
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which typically requires US citizenship

Additional Job Requirements for Production Control Specialist 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • Packaging and Transportation (P&T) Knowledge of packaging and transporting classified matter. Ability to understand P&T policies and procedures requirements.
  • Material Requirement Planning: Experience creating Work Order documents and working in an MRP /ERP like system
  • Experience working in SOMS

Education/Experience requirement for Production Control Specialist 2: Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Education/Experience requirement for Production Control Specialist 3: Position requires 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with WR detonator production manufacturing processes, and understand the ConOps to support manufacturing operation
  • Experience with packaging and transporting classified matter and/or hazardous materials
  • HAZMAT qualification
  • Experience with WR detonator production manufacturing processes, and understand the ConOps to support manufacturing operation
  • Experience with packaging and transporting classified matter and/or hazardous materials
  • Familiar with the DOT 49 CFR regulations.
  • Active DOE Q Clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
