What You Will Do

The Sigma Operations Group (SIGMA-OPS) seeks an energetic, customer-focused individual for the position of Project Leader to serve as an integral part of the Programmatic Project Management Team. This team focuses on the incorporation of project management principles and serves as the primary liaison with a variety of Sigma Division programmatic organizations, support organizations, and LANL program offices. The successful candidate will work with Sigma Division management, technical teams, and program managers throughout project life cycles, to include tracking programmatic work progress and reporting on deliverable and milestone status. This position requires a motivated and professional individual who is capable of strengthening communication across various stakeholders, acting independently, and quickly changing focus.

The Project Leader 2 will:
  • Serve as the primary interface between project scientists, program, and line management for moderately to highly complex project(s) to establish technical requirements and to negotiate and define deliverables, budgets, and schedules in accordance with the project charter and line expertise.
  • Working with diverse teams, managing moderately to highly complex projects, ensuring project deliverables are completed within the scope, schedules, and budgets defined in project work packages. Properly communicate and document all changes during project lifecycle.
  • Interface with program and line managers to assist with deconfliction, ensuring that resources are available to accomplish the work.
  • Identify and manage project procurement needs.
  • Interface with the program office and line management to develop and negotiate work packages and establish out year budgets and schedules.
  • Mentor junior team members with the possibility of providing input to performance evaluations.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience managing moderately to highly complex projects across the full project lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, including WBS, schedules, work packages, and baseline/change control management.
  • Ability to manage scope, schedule, cost, and performance, and prepare project documentation and reports
  • Experience managing projects with technical and operational components.
  • Experience working with external vendors, setting up and monitoring multi-million, multi-year contracts.
  • Ability to serve as the primary point of contact for project status, risks, and issues, delivering briefings to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to analyze, research, and resolve complex problems independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, and relationship development.
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with operations or other relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience interfacing with one or more of the following programs: Directed Stockpile Work, Strategic Materials, Science Campaign, and/or Strategic Partnership Projects, including their interfaces and interdependencies.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements.
  • Experience in handling classified matter.
  • Active DOE Q clearance.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
