What You Will Do

This position will be filled at the Project Leader 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.

You will support- Production Support Services (PSS) within ALDWP which is responsible for planning and scheduling Pit manufacturing at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The project leader will be assigned to support the PSS-4 Factory Operations and Industrial Engineering Team. Be part of this amazing Industrial Engineering (IE) team here at the nation's Plutonium Center of Excellence that supports our Nation's nuclear deterrent.

Project Leader 3 ($114,700 - $191,200)

As a Project Leader 3 will be assigned to support the production focused Lean Six Sigma (LSS) program. As a project leader, you will work closely with program leadership on the strategic design and implementation of the enterprise wide Lean Six Sigma training and certification initiative. The project leader will oversee curriculum development, manage program resources, align with senior leadership to drive cultural change, and ensure project execution delivers measurable impact. The project leader will serve as the central point of coordination for training, coaching, certification, project tracking, and Return on Investment (ROI) reporting, ensuring alignment with the Laboratory's mission and performance goals. The project leader should have greater than 2 years of experience as a black belt (or higher certification) that has run multiple projects and has experience as a trainer in the LSS methodology.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

LSS Black Belt Leader: The Project Leader shall have more than 2 years of experience serving as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (or higher certification) obtained from an accredited source. The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt shall have successfully led multiple projects utilizing the Lean Six Sigma methodology. The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt shall have more than 2 years of experience as a trainer or instructor in Lean Six Sigma methodology.

Project Leadership: Exerts significant latitude in negotiating with program and line managers to ensure that resources are available to accomplish the work, to identify procurement and contracting needs, and to marshal resources to complete project deliverables within the scope, schedules, and budgets defined in the program. Oversees multidisciplinary project team(s) in the planning, tracking, and execution of project plans from initiation to completion.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated expertise in Lean Six Sigma (Black Belt certification or higher), experience leading cross-functional teams, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Has wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Frequently contributes to the development of new theories and methods. Considered expert in field within the organization.

Communication: Demonstrated experience in developing and nurturing effective mid-level internal customer relationships. Demonstrated ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor a variety of team efforts to completion. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts. Without considerable direction, serves as the primary spokesperson to report project status and issues to the program manager and to Laboratory senior managers and workers.

Project Management: Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in all aspects of project management work, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing scope, schedule, budget, and baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.

Risk Management: Exerts significant latitude in identifying potential project risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance/avoidance for all aspects of the project(s).

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • At this level an advanced degree is typically expected.
  • PMP certification from an accredited source
  • MBA certification from an accredited source
  • Experience using Risk Analysis or Project Management Tools
  • Strong communication skills
  • Program development and deployment experience
  • Experience reporting to and communicating with multiple supervisory organizations
  • Expertise and experience working with engineers and scientists
  • Demonstrated experience working in a manufacturing or production organization
  • Certification and/or experience in human change management techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Conduct of Operations in a nuclear or radiological facility.
  • Highly motivated and ambitious
  • DOE Q Clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
