This position will be filled at either the Quality Assurance Specialist 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Join the Metrology Program and Calibration Laboratory (MPCL) Quality Team and support the Los Alamos National Laboratory's mission to solve national security challenges through scientific excellence. The MPCL provides traceable calibrations for LANL programs, operations, and research organizations that use measurement and test equipment (M&TE) to take high impact measurements. We strive to provide the highest quality customer service in a fast paced technical environment. The Quality Team supports this goal by providing outstanding quality support in areas such as Document Control, Records Management, and Training and Qualification. Providing this service requires a dedicated and committed team with a common goal - to safely and securely support LANL's mission by providing exceptional calibration services to our customers.
Quality Performance Assurance (QPA) Specialist 2 ($78,700 - $125,100)
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Assist MPCL staff in implementing quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with requirements. Quality assurance processes include document control, records management, and training and qualification.
- Provide excellent and timely support to MPCL operations.
- Support continuous improvement activities.
- Adhere to Laboratory and MPCL environmental, safety, health, and quality processes/procedures.
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Quality Assurance Specialist 3 will be required to:
- Independently perform work assignments compliantly, accurately, and with minimal direction.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend solutions.
- Develop a high-level understanding of the MPCL Quality Assurance Program, and how each element interfaces with the others.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience implementing quality program requirements.
- Ability to make sound decisions in support of quality program implementation.
- Expert in MS Office Suite.
- Experience using various software/databases such as EDRMS, UTrain, and Sharepoint.
- Demonstrated experience working professionally and collaboratively with customers, peers, and management to support calibration service operations.
- Ability to foster a work environment that promotes openness, trust, communication, teamwork, innovation, and satisfaction.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" Clearance, which normally requires U.S. Citizenship.
In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Quality Assurance Specialist 3 level requires:
- Advanced experience implementing calibration/metrology program quality requirements.
- Demonstrated experience making sound decisions in support of implementing calibration/metrology program requirements.
- Demonstrated experience interfacing various elements of a documented quality program.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical reviews/edits of policies and/or procedures
QPA Specialist 3 Education Required: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
