The Production Supply Chain & Logistics Group (SCL-3) is seeking dynamic and customer-focused Supply Chain Engineers to support production activities at TA-55. Selected candidates will:
- Support Project and Program Managers, Product Engineers, Process Engineers, and quality personnel in capture of needed materials and associated requirements
- Offer technical recommendations for appropriate material selection based on knowledge of supply chain and quality constraints
- Support supplier management activities - including vendor identification, site visits, and supplier development
- Support production of comprehensive and compliant procurement packages
- Act as supply chain subject matter expert (SME) in Integrated Project Team (IPT) meetings and Product Realization Team (PRT) meetings - conveying clear and concise relevant supply chain information
- Develop expert-level knowledge of customer material needs within assigned scope area, including the associated production schedule
- Management of Consolidate Bill of Material data for assigned scope area
- Participation in continuous improvement related activities aimed at providing efficient and professional support to customers
- Identification of supply chain risks for assigned scope area and development of mitigation strategies with support from SCL's Risk Engineer
This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 1 or R&D Engineer 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
R&D Engineer 1 (Salary $94,500 - $154,600)
- Assist with applying complex, integrated, and overlapping requirements associated with production-related material purchases
- Assist with evaluating materials to procure for a nuclear facility and/or highly regulated environment
- Develop proficiency in applying QA principles outlined in quality programs
- Maintain all training necessary to perform job function
- Familiarity with evaluating materials and creating material take-offs from engineering design packages
- Communication of supply chain concerns and statuses to varied audiences comprised of technical and non-technical personnel
- Serve as PTSME to create comprehensive procurement packages including QA requirements, SOWs and other exhibits
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the following duties are expected:
- Improving the Weapons Program material supply chain management process
- Contributing to conceptual and other design reviews
- Assist technical production staff in development of material criteria
- Lead walk-downs aimed at understanding assigned scope and validation of existing conditions including obsolete and/or at-risk materials
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Business Systems: Above average computer skills and demonstrated proficient experience with Inventory Control, Material Tracking systems, and proficient in various software suites, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Access.
Engineering Technical Competencies: Ability to review technical drawings and specification documentation to derive critical characteristics and determine material needs. Entry-level proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, or comparable modeling software.
Customer Service: Proven ability to develop and nurture effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Skilled in building trust, resolving conflicts, and delivering accurate, timely information. Adept at interacting with personnel at all levels to foster collaboration and achieve strong consensus.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills while interacting effectively with people throughout the organization hierarchy and in partnership with internal support organizations with the ability to convey complex operational concepts to diverse audiences.
Organizational Skills: Possess high attention to detail including excellent organizational skills, analytical thinking, observational skills and problem-solving skills all to include high accuracy. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust to the workings of a dynamic and cohesive fast-paced team environment.
Risk Management: Proven ability in identifying, evaluating, and managing potential supply chain risks, which include developing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance/avoidance through research and assessment.
Critical Thinking: Proven ability to think critically, assess information, and solve problems effectively. This may include conducting research, compiling and interpreting technical data derived from multiple sources to produce reliable metrics, trends, and forecasts related to assigned scope area. Utilize data to recommend solutions.
Environment: Proven success working independently and within a team environment requiring cooperation and adaptability. Experience making decisions and resolving problems both independently and as a team member, using judgment, creativity, flexibility, and initiative to determine the approach or action to take in non-routine situations.
Additional Job Requirements for R&D Engineer 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and excise sound technical judgement
- Experience developing, standardizing, and documenting process for improvement initiatives
- Entry-level experience in development of supply chain contracts
- Experience mentoring and training of junior personnel
- Demonstrated proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, or comparable modeling software
Education and Experience
R&D Engineer 1: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution related to the occupation combined with 2 years of related experience.
R&D Engineer 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active DOE Q Clearance.
- Current LANL HRP participant
- Familiarity with LANL Engineering Standards Manual/Master Specifications.
- Knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA complex specific codes, standards.
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
