The Supply Chain and Logistics division (SCL-DO) is looking for a dynamic project leader. The project leader will report into the Strategic Alliance & Continuous Improvement team that reports directly to the division office. In this role the candidate must successfully work with management from cross-functional organizations to lead and manage projects supporting the SCL-DO mission.
The selected candidate(s) will perform Project Leader activities for individually assigned projects in support of multiple multi-disciplinary programs in and around TA55.
This position will be filled at either the Project Leader (PL) 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Project Leader 1 ($78,700-$125,100)
Leverage your project leadership experience in support of the Supply Chain and Logistics (SCL-DO) Division in the vastly dynamic ALDWP environment. As a project leader, you will contribute to a team of other project leaders to manage moderately complex project(s) by applying knowledge and experience in developing project plans and work breakdown structures, negotiating work packages, and assigning various aspects of work to complete project deliverables. Your responsibilities will include successful completion of project(s) within the approved scope, schedule, and budget. Projects may include cross-organizational and cross-disciplinary stakeholders and team members. As a PL you should have a broad knowledge of reporting principles, an understanding of application and software development methodologies, as well as familiarity with Agile principles for software development.
Project Leader 2 ($94,500-$154,600)
In addition to the duties outlined above, as a seasoned PL a PL2 will work independently, effectively represent and effectively represent or lead integrated project teams on behalf of the SCL-DO other meetings and provide guidance to customers and other team members.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience in overseeing small-sized project team(s) in the planning, tracking and reporting, and execution of project plans from initiation to completion. This includes integrating moderately complex project work with competing priorities and commitments including safety, security, environmental compliance, quality, contractor assurance, and business imperatives.
- Experience identifying potential project risks, developing risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommending risk acceptance/avoidance for all aspects of the project(s).
- Experience in project management frameworks, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, work packages, risk identification, and mitigation strategies. This encompasses managing to scope, schedule, budget, and baselines; and documenting baseline reports and change control actions.
- Experience in developing and nurturing effective internal and external customer/stakeholder relationships. This includes the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, define expectations, plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion, collaboratively solve problems, and resolving conflicts.
- Knowledge in both project management software and application/software development methodologies, tools, and processes. Specific project management software experience include MS Project, Primavera, Visio, and MS Office Suite. Specific application and software development methodologies, tools, and processes experience include source code control, application development tools and techniques, database design/development management, programming languages, component integration, reviewing/understanding end-of-the-end work processes.
- The ideal candidate will have the ability to deliver clear and concise written and oral communication, work independently and in a team setting to deliver outstanding customer service.
Additional Job Requirements for Project Leader 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
- Experience and advanced knowledge in all aspects of project management frameworks, including managing to scope, schedule, budget, baselines. Documenting baseline reports and change control actions.
- Significant experience in overseeing moderately large, multidisciplinary project team(s) and managing large complex projects from initiation to completion. This includes monitoring and controlling work breakdown structures and work packages.

This includes the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and take a leadership role when building trust, gaining consensus, define expectations, plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion, collaboratively solve problems, and resolving conflicts.
- Significant experience and advanced proficiency in project management software such as MS Project, Primavera, Visio, and MS Office Suite.
Education/Experience for Project Leader 1:
- Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 2 years' related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience for Project Leader 2:
- Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A Project Management Institute certification is preferred at this level.
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Understanding of the supply chain management process, process improvement, and strategies.
- DOE Q Clearance
- Knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards and guides.
- Knowledge of industry, regulatory, or DOE/NNSA Complex specific codes, standards
- Preferred Certifications: Certified associate in project management (CAPM®), Project Management Institute- Certified Agile Practitioner (PMI-ACP®), Project Management Professional (PMP®)
- Denodo software, database convergence, and data reporting experience is a plus.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
