The Maintenance & Site Services - Automation and Predictive Technologies (MSS-APT) group provides reliable, responsive, and customer-focused support across Los Alamos National Laboratory's Facility Operations Directorates (FODs). We deliver solutions for the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Predictive Maintenance and Analytics, Building Automation Systems, and Equipment Reliability.
The MSS-APT/CMMS Solutions Architect 3 will support the Laboratory's Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system (currently Hitachi Asset Suite and NextAxiom Mobile Work Package). This position will assist in maintaining and improving system functionality, integrations, and reporting tools that enable efficient work control, payroll, scheduling, and analytics processes.
As a member of the EAM Systems Support Team, this role will work closely with senior architects, system analysts, and business partners to deliver technical solutions, resolve issues, and modernize user interfaces and workflows. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting modernization efforts and ensuring system reliability, scalability, and usability for thousands of end users.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Maintain and enhance CMMS/EAM applications, including database administration, integrations, and configuration management.
- Assist in developing and maintaining reports, dashboards, and analytics tools (e.g., MicroStrategy, Denodo, Power BI).
- Participate in requirements gathering, design, testing, and deployment of new solutions and UIs (e.g., TASHelix).
- Support troubleshooting of complex production issues involving applications, data, or integration layers.
- Collaborate across MSS-APT teams (Systems Support, Maintenance Operations, and Logistics Interface) to align technical solutions with business needs.
- Collaborate closely with central IT partners in the Applications and Data Services (ADS), Program Strategy and Execution (PSE), Infrastructure Services Division (ISD), and Innovative Customer Experience (ICE) divisions to ensure technical alignment, coordinated delivery, and secure, reliable operations across the enterprise.
- Help define and document processes, workflows, and system changes to improve maintainability and transparency.
- Participate in the development and sustainment of modernization initiatives such as Action Tracking, UI simplification, and data quality improvements.
- Contribute to cross-training and knowledge-sharing initiatives that strengthen team capability and resilience.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to support and enhance enterprise IT systems, including troubleshooting, configuration, and data management. Working knowledge of relational databases (SQL/PL-SQL), application integration, and system configuration. Familiarity with data reporting and analytics tools such as MicroStrategy, Power BI, or Denodo. Understanding of software and system lifecycle practices, including testing, documentation, and change control.
Software & Hardware Knowledge: Experience with application development or low-code platforms (e.g., TASHelix, NextAxiom HSS, or similar). Understanding of system architecture concepts and how hardware, software, and networks interoperate to support institutional systems. Basic knowledge of DevSecOps or CI/CD practices and version control systems (e.g., GitHub).
Communication & Collaboration: Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to nontechnical audiences. Strong teamwork skills; able to work collaboratively with both technical and business partners. Commitment to customer service and continuous improvement.
Database & Reporting: Foundational knowledge of SQL queries, data validation, and report development. Ability to maintain data quality and assist with integrity checks across interconnected databases.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree and eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with CMMS or EAM or similar application experience such as Hitachi Asset Suite or Mobile Work Package (MWP).
- Familiarity with web-based technologies, low/no-code development, or modern UI frameworks.
- Experience with Linux or Windows server environments.
- Experience with automated testing, both design and execution.
- Basic programming skills in Python, Java, or C++.
- Exposure to LANL or DOE operational environments.
- Active Q clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
