What You Will Do

The Production Support Services (PSS-1) group is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the position of Solutions Architect working within the PSS-1 Digital Transformation Team. The solutions architect serves as principal architect of large and complex hardware, software, database, networking, and/or telecommunication solutions. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to support projects with software development tools and processes that expand the weapons production systems capability. The PSS-1 Digital Transformation Team is responsible for evaluating and implementing solutions to efficiently leverage software systems in the deployment of a modern digital manufacturing capability within the Laboratory's plutonium operations and within the framework of the Weapons Production IT Roadmap. The successful candidate determines Laboratory-wide requirements and incorporates these requirements into solutions that may be commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) or internally developed software and hardware. May be responsible for project management and software development in implementing complex solutions. May be responsible for oversight of project documentation, marketing, training, budget, schedules, resource utilization, and benefits realization on complex solutions projects. Current systems include but are not limited to custom developed software, Oracle Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP), iBASEt Solumina Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Electronic Sales Package (ESP), and Digital Data Acquisition (DDA) and Oracle Production Scheduling (OPS). The systems are used for the production, planning, collection of quality data, and electronic sales of product. You will be expected to provide a high level of interaction with both internal and external customers, including Functional Users, Database Administrators (DBAs), Technical Application Administrators (TAAs), and System Administrators.

This position will be filled at either the Solutions Architect 3/ Solutions Architect 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate(s). Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Solutions Architect 3 ($114,700 - $191,200)

Solutions Architect 3 will be contributing to professional computing concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues in a creative and effective ways. Implementing complex networking and computing solutions across multiple IT focus areas utilizing various technologies or methods. Offering recommendations to current and future network, telecommunication, data management, security, hardware, software development and systems programming technologies. Contributing to new theories and methods in the computing industry. Performing troubleshooting activities and resolving resolutions with the Manufacturing Management Systems. Working with customers to assist with troubleshooting activities and apply, give and recommend instruction for solutions. At this level, you will be expected to accomplish work assigned under minimal supervision and direction.

Solutions Architect 4 ($138,500 - $233,200)

In addition to the duties outline for a Solutions Architect 3, the candidate will be leading the efforts in applying professional computing concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues in a creative and effective ways. Designing and architecting advanced concepts across multiple IT focus areas utilizing various technologies or methods. Leading laboratory efforts with providing knowledge of current and future network, telecommunication, data management, security, hardware, software development and systems programming technologies. Designing, communicating new theories and methods in the computing industry. At this level, assignments are often self-initiated you will be expected to accomplish work using independent judgement and virtually self-supervisory for determining the course of action to accomplish objectives.

Computing Skills/Business Systems
  • Demonstrated experience in architecting complex networking and computing solutions across multiple IT focus areas using various technologies or methods.
  • Demonstrated experience of current and future network, telecommunication, data management and security structure.
  • Demonstrated experience in hardware, software development in various programming languages and systems programming technologies.
  • Demonstrated success developing, architecting and implementing complex solutions in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Manufacturing Systems (i.e. MRP, MES, SAP)

Critical Thinking

Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions for problems affecting system architecture. Experience and demonstrated skill in analyzing processes for improvement and applying the results of such analytical efforts, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

Communication:
  • Experience and demonstrated excellent skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications. Demonstrated experience with planning and executing to defined due dates, documenting actions completed, providing status on actions completed and completing all work tasks independently with minimal error.
  • Demonstrated ability to network effectively with other administrators and key contacts outside own area of expertise, both internal and external to the organization.

Organizational Skills:

Possess high attention to detail including strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, observational skills and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to multi-task and adjust to the workings of a dynamic environment.

Leadership:

Demonstrated ability to lead and work with Software Developers, Technical Application Administrators, and Manufacturing System Analysts. This should include providing technical guidance where needed.

Accountability:

Experience working with confidential or proprietary information, classified documents or sensitive information.

Clearance:

Ability to obtain a DOE "Q" clearance

Education and Experience for Solutions Architect 3:

Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Additional Job Requirements for higher level title:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification for a Solutions Architect 4 requires:
  • Expert in professional computing concepts and experience in architecting complex concepts effectively.
  • Expert knowledge in analyzing system features and functionality, investigating software requirements, original programming, system testing and creating comprehensive software documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience in researching and evaluating current system technologies and providing a vision for improved technologies and developing a plan to implement that vision.

Education and Experience for Solutions Architect 4:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Technical Experience:

Background with Oracle database technology using SQL, PL/SQL. Functional and technical knowledge with Oracle Applications to include Oracle MRP and iBASEt Solumina MES. Demonstrated experience of Manufacturing Systems (i.e MRP, MES, SAP)

Nuclear Facility Compliance:

Familiarity with DOE/NNSA Laboratories research and development mission areas.

Clearance:

Active DOE Q clearance and HRP Certification.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
