What You Will Do

Join the largest division at Los Alamos National Laboratory by performing Subcontract Technical Representative oversight of over 600 subcontracted employees that support diverse and multiple facets of operations throughout the site.

As a Subcontract Technical Representative in the Logistics Modernization, Systems, and Subcontract Management group, perform as a single point of contact for customers, stakeholders, subcontract managers. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, cost, schedule, security, and environmental subcontract performance within the terms of the subcontract while managing the subcontract from cradle to grave to ensure robust and consistent operations of the facilities throughout Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Subcontract Technical Representative 3 $104,100 - $172,200
STR level 3 is expected to independently be responsible for the management of subcontracts from conception to closeout. The level 3 STR is expected to mentor level 1 and 2 STRs and support STR 4s


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in directly or indirectly related fields in any of the following roles: foreman, field engineer, contract administrator, procurement technician, or craft.
  • Experience in the formation/administration of subcontracts including, but not limited to: bidder pre-qualification, award, monitoring of performance of subcontractors, back charge procedures, resolution of claims and disputes.
  • Knowledge of subcontract policies/procedures outside and/or inside LANL, general subcontracting procedures, execution of safe, secure, and quality construction tasks, as well as regulations affecting maintenance and site services subcontract management or equivalent knowledge related to private sector subcontracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to set, achieve, and execute performance goals as a team member or self-directed employee.

Education/Experience at lower level:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering, Construction, or Contracts Law discipline from an accredited institution and 5 years directly related experience in engineering/construction contracting practices, applicable government or commercial regulations and practices, and/or LANL policies, procedures, and work practices; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation to include specialized courses in contract management.

Education/Experience at higher level:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering, Construction, or Contracts Law discipline from an accredited institution and 8 years directly related experience in engineering/construction contracting practices, applicable government or commercial regulations and practices, and/or LANL policies, procedures, and work practices; or, an equivalent combination of education and related experience to include specialized courses in contract management.

Desired Qualifications:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Thorough knowledge of subcontract policies and procedures outside and/or inside Los Alamos National Laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects as a self-directed employee or team member, including setting and managing goals and leading the preparation/presentation of oral and written reports.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.
