The Production Systems & Technology Group (PSS-1) is seeking a skilled and highly motivated candidate to fill the position of a Computing Systems Professional 3, within the Online Collaboration & Infrastructure team as part of the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP). Working on a team, the selected candidate will perform the full spectrum of SQL Database (DBA) and IIS Administration supporting custom websites and applications and Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) Software.
This CSP-3 role is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our Microsoft SQL Server databases and for maintaining and optimizing our Internet Information Services (IIS) web server infrastructure. You will work closely with developers, system, network and database administrators to ensure seamless integration and high availability of critical systems for ALDWP's unclassified and classified environments.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- SQL Database and IIS Administration support for the unclassified and classified networks.
- Serve as the primary point of support for IIS configuration, providing expertise in troubleshooting, configuration, deployment, and performance optimization.
- Serve as a Database Administrator, leveraging expertise to design, develop, modify, test, and troubleshoot SQL databases, including tables, queries, and permissions, to meet the functional requirements of various business areas.
- Analyze and define business requirements, assess architectural and configuration needs, perform system testing, and develop detailed architecture and configuration documentation, including procedures and changes to support compliance and disaster recovery efforts.
- Implement and maintain high availability solutions, including Always on Availability Groups for databases and load-balanced IIS configurations, to support 24/7 operations and disaster recovery readiness.
- Collaborate with developers, dbas, network and system administrators and security teams to ensure seamless deployment and support.
- Assist in the deployment and management of Commercial Off the Shelf Software.
- Mentor and support fellow junior team members.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Knowledge:
- Demonstrated experience in managing, monitoring, and maintaining SQL Server databases across various environments.
- In-depth understanding and demonstrated experience with the design and implementation of database solutions including database security, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, replication and performance monitoring requirements.
- Experience implementing and maintaining security best practices including role-based access controls and auditing.
- Experience optimizing and tuning database queries and stored procedures for maximum efficiency and operations.
- Demonstrated experience in database accuracy, testing, data validation, data comparison and data auditing tools.
- Experience automating routine tasks using PowerShell or other scripting languages.
- Experience Installing, configuring, and maintaining IIS 10 for hosting internal websites and applications, including authentication methods, SSL certificates, ports, Single Sign On (SSO), website deployments, application pools, etc.
- Demonstrated experience implementing IIS replication to support high availability, load balancing, and synchronization between staging and production environments.
- Experience in diagnosing and resolving IIS and database related issues, including website errors, service disruptions, performance bottlenecks, application/database failures and deployment challenges.
- Demonstrated experience installing, configuring, and deploying Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) software.
- Experienced in vulnerability remediation and applying security patches.
Communication:
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills to handle communication with technical and non-technical peers, customers, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to translate business requirements to technical solutions.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with both internal and external team and organizations, effectively defining expectations, aligning responsibilities, and identifying when software modifications are appropriate to address existing issues.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience administrating PostgreSQL or Oracle Database Management Systems.
- Experience working in a Jira or Azure DevOps environment.
- Experienced managing work tasks using Kanban methodology.
Education/Experience:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
This position will require on-call support and may be adjusted at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
